The grandmother with the sunflower seeds?
That is the coldest shit I have ever seen...put them in your pockets so your dead bodies will raise the flowers!
Holy shit...seriously, if I was a 19-year old soldier and saw THAT? I think I would have panicked more than a little...
The "Russian warship, go fuck yourself" crew?
Absolutely badass response. I don't even care how much of it turns out to be myth and how much truth...its kind of like Washington crossing the Delware, its a symbol of amazing power.
Zelensky?
He alone is galling Putin every second of this war and I hope he lives to see the end and justice for his people. Speaking of Washington and myth making, Zelensky is writing a chapter in history that may very well be talked about 300 years from now with reverance and appreciation...just as democracy and representative government has been under assault around the world, a symbol has emerged and shown the world there IS hope and freedom in democracy that some are still willing to give all to preserve and protect.
Viva Ukraine!

(51,550 posts)I notice it is mostly right wing sites running with this story. I think MAGAts wish we would do that with looters here.
At this point, Ukrainians should in fact go into stores and get whatever they can to help themselves survive. Leaving food and supplies in stores/homes just leaves it for the under-supplied Russians to help them fight. As Russian troops move through Ukraine, they are systematically looting and taking whatever they want. I think that was Russia's re-supply plan all along. That's how they resupply in other wars.
Here's video of Russian soldiers looting a store and a bank: https://www.newsweek.com/videos-show-russian-soldiers-looting-banks-grocery-stores-ukraine-1683027
Weird how the Blaze, which you originally cited to, didn't show THAT video.

(1,568 posts)But right now they are in the middle of a battle for their freedom and sovereignty. The normal systems of justice are not able to handle these people, because they are literally out there looking for saboteurs marking targets. This is ultimately a way to discourage anti-social behavior absent a fully functioning justice system, without resorting to brutal violent tactics. These guys being wrapped up for a few hours of shame seems like a reasonable deterrent given the situation. Beating them, shooting them, or using them as mine clearing fodder does not. And no, I don't think San Francisco should take note of this tactic. Well, I mean, unless Oakland decides to send an invasion force of tanks over.

(25,960 posts)Apparently this is a way of detaining them until the police come by to pick them up. Not so awful to go through what is a relatively mild public shaming given the circumstances. No one is really hurting them--until their pants get pulled down and they're shoved against a metal pole in the freezing cold. That's a bit much. It was creative and mildly amusing up to that point. Meh.
