(9,963 posts)With a government that is corrupt from the too down, I wonder whether a significant portion of the military spending ever got to the military. Russias soldiers seem poorly trained, and choosing to attack when the tanks have to stay on roads makes them sitting ducksnot a particularly smart military tactic. The logistics of re-supplying the armed forces also seem to be falling down, for which we can all be grateful. Perhaps the reason Putin raised the nuclear threat is that he isnt sure his army is up to the task.

(9,963 posts)Im sure the US maintains and tests its nuclear arsenal on a regular basis. Has Russia done the same, or has some of the money allocated for such maintenance gone into pockets at the top? I certainly hope we never find out! Interesting information from a site navalnews.com.
As Russia ratchets up the nuclear threat over the past few days, following their invasion of Ukraine, one of the weapons on peoples minds is Poseidon. This nuclear mega torpedo is unique in the history of the world.
Despite speculation, we do not believe that Poseidon has been deployed. The system is not yet ready. But it does raise concerns for nuclear stability in the near future. It changes the shape of nuclear deterrence and will become one of Russias most feared weapons.
Poseidon is an Intercontinental Nuclear-Powered Nuclear-Armed Autonomous Torpedo. It is a giant torpedo which can hit coastal cities with devastating results. Compared to an intercontinental ballistic missile it is very slow, but possibly unstoppable.
