Something for everyone to ponder.

McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and Mondelez International (the maker of Oreos and Ritz Crackers), Starbucks, Papa John’s and Yum Brands chains including KFC and Pizza Hut are still doing business in Russia.

I can think of an added bonus if you were to decide to boycott these companies … BETTER HEALTH!
They all sell junk.

4. What if we did the opposite.

Those are known to be products of Western culture. What if they stayed, raised the wages to a very livable wage and got the Russian people thinking about what western democratic countries have to offer? Or maybe a different solution. We can change within more than without.

6. The farmer

Who I buy my meats from, hates Russia. He also hates growth hormones and antibiotics.

7. Since Russia's economy has tanked I wonder how many people can buy this stuff

I, like some others, stay away from all of this stuff anyway.

11. I retired from Mondelez 2 1/2 years ago.

I was fortunate enough to have traveled for work there and have been to the plant in Veliky Novgorod Russia. It is a beautiful plant. A three story atrium was their cafeteria. Everyone working there felt lucky to have a job at the plant. The company gave them benefits that were hard to come by in Russia. Good wages, free food in the cafeteria, a doctor came to the plant twice a week.
That was in 2009,so things may have changed sense then. By the way, they make chewing gum there.
Our division use to belong to Kraft, Cadbury, Pfizer, before becoming Mondelez Every time we changed hands management went on a cost cutting spree, at least in the US. Made working there very hard the last few years.
So it doesn't surprise me much they are in still in Russia. Profit over everything.

12. Aren't many of these franchised?

I certainly understand the concept of boycotting these businesses, but as franchises do we hurt the company or do we hurt the individual business owner, who may simply be a good citizen in a bad country?
