The volume of the rib cage is about 10% smaller in females than in males having the same height although the reason for this is presently unclear. The cranio-caudal inclination of ribs is greater in females than males but the length of ribs has not previously been compared between the sexes. There was a series done by the same people who did the Planet Earth series. It said in the womb all fetuses are girls until whatever many weeks. Then the hormones change and the male gets brain damage. After that he starts growing male parts.

Apparently that's the moment when gender hits all the variations. Can't remember the series name but boy was it good.
