The future of abortion...

Some seemingly unrelated facts tell us where this is headed.

Idaho borders Washington state. During the pandemic, deep red Idaho did nothing to mitigate the effects of Covid. Their Covid death rate was 75% higher than Washington's, and Washington hospitals were jammed with Idaho Covid patients.

Now, 45% of new patients at Planned Parenthood in one Washington town near the Idaho border are from Idaho. Planned Parenthood is opening new clinics along the border in Washington. PP in Washington is going to be slammed with Idaho patients.

In the states around Texas, new patients from Texas at abortion clinics have increased 800%.

Two countries... One free... the other a kind of "Handmaid's Tale" dystopia.

1. I'm guessing that medication-induced abortions will be even more common.

I don't know how the backwards states will prevent this except through fear of punishment if caught.

The real solution is to sterilize all men who won't give women the right to determine their own health. For legislators, I'd suggest castration.

11. Without Searching The Mail, There's No Way To Enforce It.

And since searching someone's mail without a warrant is a federal crime, I hope the bastards are dumb enough to try it. No federal judge is going to authorize a warrant for a measly state crime.

5. You would think that, but the pro-forced-birth fanatics have thought of that...

if young women think they can count on the abortion pills... mifepristone & misoprostol, they should know the forced-birth people are coming at those drugs full-blast.
Texas already had the most restrictive abortion laws in the U.S. — and they just got tougher. Recently, a new law took effect that adds penalties of jail time and a fine of up to $10,000 for anyone who prescribes pills for medication abortions through telehealth or the mail.

20. Doctors can prescribe for off-label uses.

Doctors can prescribe for off-label uses.

Off-label prescribing is when a physician gives you a drug that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved to treat a condition different than your condition. This practice is legal and common. In fact, one in five prescriptions written today are for off-label use.

Maybe like ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine?

https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=prescribe+medications+off-label

Just be sure to mention side effects.

Abortion could be banned nationwide.

That's the terrifying reality we may be looking at.

8. Oh, but that's just the start!

They will also ban contraception, same-sex marriage, interracial marriage, putting children up for adoption, any kind of sex except penis-in-vagina to include masturbation, LGBT, and anything else that violates the tenets of the most extreme Christian sects. Oh yeah…since the book they like to beat people over the head with says slavery is fine, expect that to make a comeback but this time it won’t just be black people who get to be enslaved.

Fortunately for me I’ve got a house that’s worth enough to give me seed money to move to Germany if those assholes go full fascist.

12. People Have A Bad Habit Of Voting Against Their Own Self-Interests...

Look at how many women voted against Hillary and FOR the Mango Menace in 2016 for example. And that was despite (or in spite) of all the evidence of Dolt45's crimes of harassment, rape, misogyny, promises to nominate anti-choice judges, etc.

Referring to the American public, H.L. Mencken once said:

“No one in this world, so far as I know — and I have searched the records for years, and employed agents to help me — has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people.”

It's still quite applicable today.

25. Judging By The Outbreak Of "Kens" and "Karens"

Since Dolt45 took his infamous walk down that escalator to announce his candidacy, I’d say it could also mean the “masses are assholes”.

Either way, it fits the GOPQ base.

7. The problem with Texas is, it's enormous

A woman could travel 500 miles and still be far from the nearest state border that allows abortions.

And the women most in need of abortions typically don't have the ability or funds to pay for 2 days and a hotel stay traveling.

15. Money is needed to travel outside states for abortion, many women are hard pressed to even come up

with abortion fees. This has never been about abortion but, as some old, white lady at a rethug meeting shouted, "we need more white babies." Black women have more abortions, so there will just be more fodder for low-waged jobs

Over md rethug gov hogan's objection, money was allocated to train nurse practitioners, midwives, and physicians assistants to do abortions. Glad md has Dem majority congress

So, how have they managed to circumvent this and outlaw abortion in so many states in spite of what the Constitution says?

29. It's just weird to me how different two neighboring states can be

I thought Idaho was big on not wanting government in your life. But they are fine with the government forcing citizens to give birth? Again this law is about control and "power" over women. It's never been about some moral prerogative that a fetus longs to be born.

35. You know the funniest part of Horsey's cartoon

Is that it’s already true.

The right to choose in Washington predates Roe. Before Roe there was a clinic in Spokane that’s now part of the Planned Parenthood network. My mom grew up in Bonners Ferry, which is the closest town to the Canadian border, in the early 1950s and she claims quite a few of her classmates who “got into trouble” (meaning they got pregnant) would “go to Spokane” (which is no mean feat; it’s well over 100 miles and the roads were not good back then) for abortions. People from Idaho who have needed to end pregnancies have always gone to Spokane.

There are three places in Idaho where abortions are done…and for most of the state they’re out of reach. Find an Idaho map and look up Boise and Idaho Falls. There are three clinics in the whole state. Two are in the Boise area, the third in Idaho Falls. It’s quicker and easier to get to Seattle from anywhere north of Moscow.
