Ukraine just went from 56 to 76 fighter aircraft.

The Ukrainian Air Force has added about 20 more operational aircraft to its fleet because of an influx of spare parts, according to a senior US defense official.

Though the official wouldn't specify which country had provided the aircraft parts, the official said Wednesday that the US and other countries had worked "to get them the parts they need to get them in the air."

In early March, about two weeks into the war, the defense official said Ukraine has 56 fighter aircraft, which composed about 80% of its fixed-wing fighters. But the Ukrainians weren't using their aircraft much, flying only five to 10 missions per day, the official said.

Here are 20 spares parts that will turn that stack of tires into 20 functional aircraft.

We don’t need a press conference, one day 57 planes the next 76. That is what drove the Russians from Afghanistan.

Stock car driver from way back.
He used to take the paint off the sheet metal, spray it with acid
and leave the pieces lay out until they were aluminum foil thin.
Shave a few pounds that way.
Just don’t let the inspectors lean on the fender.

I bet some of the 'spare parts' add up to a full operational plane, preassembled, all fuelled up, armed and ready to go.

What is a fighter aircraft anyway, other than a collection of parts, that may be considered 'spare' in some conditions?
