You're damn right. We'd be in jail, and there would be a lien on our property to cover the expenses....mounting daily.
Enough of this coddling this mafia scum bag.

Celerity
(43,275 posts)which would likely trigger off a 'Revenge For The God Emperor' shooting war, so that would not a good thing AT ALL.
He literally committed hundreds of millions of USD in fraud via illegal valuation manipulations over the years, and as soon as the 'right' person came into the DA's office, poof goes the whole thing.
A nation ends in terms of long term viability when one side is willing to bin the constructs, constraints, and boundaries that the nation itself operated under, all in a quest for utter power, OR it also ends when the other side, who wants to maintain the nation and norms, refuses, at some point, to do what needs to be done in order to preserve the union.
Lincoln, from the latter group, knew when to colour outside the lines when faced with the snarling, nation-ending dangers that spewed forth the from the former group. There are no Lincolns out there that I see, and perhaps even he would be stopped now by systemic inertia.

justice will not be served in any meaningful way, and it's time we all understand that.
love your optimism...

If you had enough money to pay the fines but simply refused to pay, the judge can order you to serve a jail sentence for credit of at least $50 per day.
At that rate, TFG would be in jail for 2000 days. I'd be happy with that.

(13,421 posts)He may not choose to pay the fines, but they do have the power to lock his ass up. I'm assuming that would work like any other fugitive situation--meaning he could be arrested in another place (Mir-a-lax-o comes to mind) then be transported to face the originating judge in person. I'm no lawyer, but maybe one of the DU member attorneys could give their educated opinion here...
WHY is that pendejo not in jail already?

(16,925 posts)this 'issue' is a CIVIL case in the state of New York. Nothing 'Federal' involved with it.
Yes, a BLACK FLEET OF FBI agents surrounding Merde-a-Lardo would be 'BREAKING NEWS!' for everybody but 'Faux' - but it ain't gonna' happen........yet (well, at least not related to this case).

(15,536 posts)I wish he'd just take a dirt nap already. Don't you ever wonder what kind of funeral he'd get as an ex-President? I just hope they don't taint our Capitol with his toxic body laying there. Seriously, having said that, here's a guy who fomented an insurrection at our Capitol and he could very well be given that honor.
Man, I should have never gone there. I wonder if his kids would be smart enough to know it'd be a disaster if they did that because, like his inauguration, no one would show.
smirkymonkey
(63,221 posts)The odds of that happening are pretty good considering our ages, but still , you never really know. Anything can happen with him.

(2,509 posts)and I dont think they can go into another state and arrest him and/or take his property. They would have to work with Florida to extradite him and thats not going to happen
Emile
(22,639 posts)that is wanted in a different state, then the DOJ can.
Tickle
(2,509 posts)so why doesn't the DOJ arrest him?

Emile
(22,639 posts)I stand by what I wrote too!
Tickle
(2,509 posts)Apparently you have never had a warrant from a state while you're living in another state. Neither have I but I do know people who did. It was from Mass to Florida and Florida refused to extradite my friend's son to Mass.
In my friend's case the charge was 3 MM and Florida couldn't be bothered doing anything. He, my friend's son had gotten arrested in Florida and when they ran the check the found out he had a warrants in Mass.
I think TFG situation is civil but probably now it's criminal. I would think not paying money to the courts becomes criminal. Anyway the governor is going to protect him even if it was murder. If it was Federal like 1/6 the DOJ would go get him, at least I would think that.

(22,639 posts)United States Constitution
The 'Travis Translation' of Constitution: If somebody is charged with a crime in one state, then runs from the police to another state, the Governor of the state in which the crime was committed can demand the return of that person, and the other state must obey.
TheRealNorth
(9,475 posts)Apparently, the bounty hunter only needs to be licensed in FL. Don't know if anyone apprehended by a bounty hunter would need to go through a state extradition process.
I say just throw him in the trunk and drive to NY. His Secret Service detail can ride along if they'd like.
Tickle
(2,509 posts)The bounty hunters could get killed if they were to approach tfg
LOL I love your last line
TheRealNorth
(9,475 posts)The secret service agents would be guilty of aiding and abetting if they resisted. The Secret Service is charged is to protect him from physical danger, not the long arm of the law. That's why I said they could "ride along" if they like.
I know this is all FanFic, but it's fun to think about how it could play out.
At some point well find out
