because hours went by without any solid info but there seems to be more info this morning so I'm beginning to suspect the rumor is true.

This sounds definitive:

I read that the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has confirmed this, as well.

But, some reports are saying it was sunk.

Wait- is there a second ship that’s been hit ???

Frigate left that is. I think I saw a report that pooty had 3 frigates and one (diesel) sub in the black sea.

Wonder what the sailors on that remaining ship are talking about?

One article suggests this ship is a "juicy target"

https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidaxe/2022/05/06/the-russian-frigate-admiral-makarov-might-be-the-juiciest-target-in-the-black-sea/?sh=37cad34774d5

Another says the ship has been hit, and is on fire:

The Russians say none of that is true. (Of course they do). Well, actually , the quote is that they don't know.
"Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters "we do not have such information" about the reported strike, RIA Novosti reported."

I kind of think the Russians aren't going to be very happy when it sinks- which just might happen.

Sure would be a SHAME if anything bad happened to your ship, Comrade.

...these protection systems so that missile attacks were successful. Btw, modern warships have amazingly little armor to protect the sides, decks and upper works compared to say WWII cruisers and battleships. We and the Brits learned this the hard way when our warships took missile hits (Argentinian war, Gulf War) even with similar protections.

This tells me some level of spoofing/misdirection is at work to fool Russkie anti-air systems from properly defending their ships. One can be sure our U.S. Navy is closely watching these developments in order to further protect our warships.

Turkey controls the Dardanelles, and as I understand it, Turkey's policy is to refuse passage to any nation's warships when there are hostilities in the Black Sea.

If I'm right about that, then Russia can't bring in other vessels to replace those that are being lost in the war.
