Can the country survive if there is no justice for those that planned the overthrow of the election?

Some will say there have been many times where there was no justice and we survived. One example they give is the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan after the attack of 9/11 and the awful torture tactics that were used against those people?

And it is true, no one was held responsible for that. Democrats were not willing to prosecute those responsible. They preferred to look forward.

But, however reprehensible those actions were, they did not threaten or challenge the very existence of our democracy. That is a big distinction.

The insurrection of January 6th and the conspiracy to over-throw a legitimate election and install an autocrat, thru violent means, if necessary, was different from anything our country has experienced in the past.

If those that planned and conspired to overthrow a duly-elected government are not held accountable, will the justice system ever be able to regain any credibility?

Is it something we cannot afford to look past? There can be no "looking forward" this time?

The people will be told what to do and what to think by the wealthy oligarchs and will trust their leaders to make all the decisions for them. Everyone will listen to FOX News as the state media. Bread and circuses, as in the days of the Romans.

no prosecutions for those who undoubtedly are guilty but may not be convicted due to lack of evidence. I suppose you have list of such people. I suggest we get who we can and move on. We have way worse problems right now with Roe which won't only affect abortion you know.

country's democracy could recover. However, these people haven't given up. Justice must be done if we are to prevent another attack.

Since we didn't bother to shut the Cyber Ninjas down, you can expect more of that crap in every key democratic win. Especially since it was recently revealed that they estimated a cost of $150-250,000 & ended up costing $8.8 million. What a fucking grift. Federal election laws were broken & the DOJ did nothing. My bad. There may have been some sternly worded letters.

We're about to find out if our side is taking this seriously enough, when repub congress members thumb their noses at the committee subpoenas.

I really don't think so. It sends a message to them that they have carte blanche and that whatever they do, no matter how illegal or awful it is, they will not be held accountable. The next time will be much worse and I don't think our democracy will survive it.

If people at the top are not held accountable then attempting to over throw our country becomes legal. If we did convict people for robbing banks, what would happen?

What Trump and his enablers did is as bad as it gets. If Pence had gone along with the plan you would not recognize our country right now. It would be complete chaos. Imagine fake electors being put in place in Republican controlled states and over turning the will of the people. It almost happened and it must be judged in a court of law so it will never happen again.

Republican controlled states are planning to do it again. Give them control of congress, the Whitehouse and watch it happen again. The only thing that can stop it is the law. A lot of people must go to prison. That's how I see it.
