How the Supreme Court could soon drastically expand the right to carry guns

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/how-the-supreme-court-could-soon-drastically-expand-the-right-to-carry-guns/ar-AAXtSfp?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=77477cec864d4a4295fd441a5cefe698

How this case could affect gun laws across the nation: The Supreme Court hasn’t weighed in recently on whether the Second Amendment protects carrying guns outside the home. In 2008’s District of Columbia v. Heller, the court said the Second Amendment protects the right to own a gun for self-defense in the home, and in McDonald v. Chicago in 2010, it made clear that state and local gun control measures (and not just federal ones) also must respect that right.

If they rule that New York’s restrictions on carrying a gun in public are unconstitutional, then “across the country, there will be lots of laws that will be invalidated right away,” said Jerold Levine, a New York City lawyer who focuses on gun cases and supports the challenge to this law.

He said it’s likely the court will still allow states and municipalities to deny people licenses to carry guns — “there’s no need to worry that murderers will be getting licenses,” he said — but people won’t have to provide a justification for their application.

Levine called this potential change the “holy grail” of gun rights: “This has been the greatest limitation for gun owners now for over 100 years.”

I see ZERO chance that the gun situation will get even a tiny bit better during my lifetime, if ever.

Correction: at best there's no need to worry that *previously convicted* murderers will be getting licenses to carry guns.

But people plotting their first go at it?

We also don't have the votes in Congress. So we're trying to govern with one arm tied behind our back. And although we have the House, Senate and WH, the rethugs have the advantage.

"Any other ideas?" While this was a bit of a snide comment, the answer is yes. Win overwhelmingly in November so we don't need Manchin and Sinema's vote anymore in the senate and hold onto / increase our majority in the House.

So "Get Out the Vote'.

…on who wins will be deciding the make up of the court, maybe things would be different. The left would have the court and be able to ban guns, then we would be the ones claiming the protests to hand over guns are not protests but require heavily armed military. As it happens, they got their first, so the left gets to play the protest part and the right plays the “the protest is violent we must destroy them” part.

We were always going to get here depending on the topic. We were either gonna split over refusing to accept an abortion ban or refusing to hand over guns. Maybe in another timeline DUers are having a grand old time watching noncompliant gun owners gunned down by the military for refusal to hand over semi-autos, but in this timeline they seem to be taking over it all.

carrying a toy gun, you are likely to be shot dead in seconds for carrying it openly.

Sorry, that one still enrages me...they "thought he was an adult", in an open carry state, but shot him before they even stopped the car.

Almost anyone can get a carry permit here because the Sheriff accepts any reason you give.

clad ageing hippie in the kale aisle at Safeway and empty off of a full clip from their beloved and cherished SIG Sauer P320 XCarry Spectre into said hippie's chest simply for sporting a Greenpeace or BLM tee shirt, then walk, scot free.

The humper will bank on using a combo 'stand your ground'/'extended (to public spaces) 'castle doctrine' to claim they are immune from prosecution as they will state that the hippie was an imminent threat to 'their (way of) life' due to Greenpeace/BLM shirt offending and 'scaring' them.

It feels like it.

Didn't Kyle Shittinhouse just kill people in the open and get away with it and say he was scared?

Also the hippie made zero moves in terms of interaction with the humper QMAGAt. They were pumped full of 9mm slugs simply for wearing a Greenpeace or BLM tee shirt.
