(5,840 posts)They need to display this same level of resolve and courage. When they don't, when they just send platitudes and whine that nothing can be done, they normalize the inaction so that nothing ever will be done. They need to break that pattern and show us that they fucking care. I want to see them anguished like we are.
Look, I don't really like kids much and I cried like an idiot. If you aren't anguished by 19 children (20 at Sandy Hook) getting horribly murdered, you are not human. The Dems need to show us that they hurt when this happens, just like the rest of us.

A nice little hidey-hole the gun-death lovers scramble toward, ANYTHING to distract or otherwise turn the focus away from their precious guns, so you'll stop talking about it and bothering them about it. And heaven forbid, force them to act on it when they'd just rather not. I kept thinking (WHILE shouting "YOU'RE AN ASSHOLE, ABBOTT!" and "FUCK YOU, ABBOTT" at him as he sat there burping out the same tired cliches and talking points) HOW MANY MILLLIONS of people here and around the world have mental health problems and issues - WHO DON'T GO grab a gun and slaughter people???

(43,128 posts)Beto drew a line in the sand there. Citizens are outraged, and Beto was there for them. Bravely. No, make that BRAVELY.
Politically, Abbott is hated by elements of the population nationwide for his abortion rigging antics. That is very hard for a state politician to do, to wreak havoc nationwide. Abbott's cold demeanor surrounded by goons says he his afraid of losing in November, and now that graphic is out and will color everything he does. Abbott didn't face the challenge. He let his underlings do it. He is damaged goods at this point, I doubt he has upside from here, the only question is can he hang on long enough to prevent a loss in November.

They certainly have that 'Seig Hiel' arm action down. They're pointing for Beto to leave, but those arms snapped into that position like they've done it many, many times before.

(10,828 posts)If more people had the courage to do this, we'd all be a hell better off.
These Republicans felt the sting of O'Rourke's comments bc they're too accustomed to having their ridiculous ideas, policies and lack of compassion go uncriticized and not called out for what they are: a contemptible indifference to the suffering of others. Judge them by their lack of action. Spit on their empty words or infuriating whataboutism to deflect from their own hollowed out souls.
We need to showcase this hollowness, this craven abdication of everything decent to incite a revolution of sensibilities in the American psyche, to break the gun fetish that has grown through greed and hate, and then make all citizens think of gun victims as their children, their sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters.
I don't know whether showing dead bodies, human flesh blown into pieces, would make a difference. But if it would, I say bring it on. Make us all look at the carnage this stupid, evil obsession with guns has wrought, how lies and deceit have torn families to smithereens. Some of these parents will be required to use DNA to identify their babies because the disfigurement from a battlefield weapon is so profound.
Imagine the horror of that. Then imagine the smug faces of men or women who repeatedly say: the solution to a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Or the emptiness of sending the standard Thoughts and Prayers.
Show America what Governor Abbott and his crew and all those like them have delivered to this country. In this case, the torn and bloodied bodies of little children.
This is not PRO-LIFE. This is PRO-DEATH.

I can't even imagine how a parent could go on living after having to deal with something as horrific as this.

(11,097 posts)He was in town and an unannounced speaker. My memory is that he was in town to try to talk reason to folks at a gun show.
His passion on the subject was obviously genuine. He did not appear to have a prepared speech - he just spoke his mind. I was wowed.
I am not convinced that gun regulation is a winning issue in Texas but hope springs eternal.
