SOPA is the 1%'s Hostile Take Over of the Internet

This is now posted on Craig's List

Stop HR 3261 (SOPA) and S 968 (PIPA) Internet Blacklist Bills

Congress needs to hear from you, or these dangerous bills will pass - they have tremendous lobbying dollars behind them, from large corporations reportedly hoping to prop up outdated, anti-consumer business models at the expense of the very fabric of the Internet -- recklessly unleashing a tsunami of take-down notices and litigation, and a Pandora's jar of "chilling effects" and other unintended (or perhaps intended?) consequences.

Please let your Members of Congress know you OPPOSE H.R. 3621 "Stop Online Piracy Act" (SOPA) and S. 968 "Protect IP Act" (PIPA):

They can harass and arrest protesters, and journalists, and they can downplay and distort the message through the MSM, but in order to keep the game rigged they need to control the message. The free exchange of information scares the shit out of them. They can't arrest everyone, and I don't think they'd get far trying to shoot people, so limiting, controlling or trying to outright shut down communications is likely their next step.

So did the typewriter.
Most of us have much better and faster versions of both in our own homes. The Internet is not the only way.

Edited to add: Don't forget the digital camera.

There are numerous sites saying Teamsters support SOPA/PIPA but I've been unable to locate a direct statement.

support it in the current form. The Writer's Guild West is no longer supporting SOPA and their position most closely reflects my own at this time:
"Although the WGAW strongly supports combating piracy, the competition, First Amendment, and due process concerns the bill creates must be addressed."

This is a hugely complex issue. Much political action going on within the Unions that support it. Much, much conflict and tension. WGAW is correct, this is not the right way to do that which needs to get done, and this does many things that do not help anyone other than the top tiers. The flip side is not simply allowing mass organized piracy just as the solution is not this constriction and destruction of the internet as it is now functioning.

Agreed. Killing the internet will stop piracy that's for sure.

It sounds like the Teamsters are working under the false impression that proponents of SOPA are operating in good faith. That's always a fatal assumption when one is dealing with jackals.
