In March I posted John McDermott's version of the Irish air The Minstrel Boy by the 19th century poet Tom Moore in honor of St. Patrick's Day.
But one of the comments that accompanied the YouTube version of the song has continued to haunt me. The words ought to be better.known. Today I reprint them in full:
Today it is 14 years since my brother Sgt. Christopher P. Geiger died in Afghanistan in service of the country he so much loved. This song was requested to be played at his funeral if he were not to come back. Unfortunately the request was honored. Seven years ago I honored my big brother the best way I could by naming my only son after him. I know you are watching over your nephew and I. God bless you my brother and God bless America. You are a true patriot and you were my hero.
Terrance Geiger
Here is the song:

My Uncle Tom was USN and killed in WWII combat when his ship was sunk during the Battle of Guadalcanal.
Every St Patrick's Day I listen to John McDermott's superb version of "Danny Boy" in my uncle's honor. We never forget him at our family reunions and drink at toast to him.
My father did the same thing you did, named his son after his brother KIA in honor of him.
Thanks for posting.
