Ohio GOP's wild plan to arm teachers

Cops and educators denounce Ohio GOP's wild plan to arm teachers Ohio's Republican governor is preparing to pass a law allowing teachers to carry guns on campus with minimal training. Cops and educators hate the idea. The Ohio Fraternal Order of Police opposes the law as well. When Ohio Republicans introduced a similar bill last year, the order’s director of government affairs, Mike Weinman, testified that the organization “strongly disagrees” with the law. Weinman reiterated the need for high-level training to effectively handle situations with guns. “Teachers and students will not receive this training level during an eight-hour concealed carry class or a weekend-long training class,” he said. None of this will come as a surprise to people with common sense. It’s not a teacher’s job to combat gun violence, so many teachers in Ohio don’t want to do it. It is a police officer’s job to combat gun violence, and, knowing the difficulty of the job, they also don’t want teachers to do it, especially if they lack proper training. But the GOP is more concerned with looking like they’re coming up with solutions to gun violence than presenting actual solutions to gun violence, which they and their base might not like. With Americans nationwide calling for lawmakers to do something about gun violence, House Bill 99 is Ohio Republicans’ attempt to check a box and keep moving. Even when there’s a widespread, justifiable belief this bill will do far more harm than good. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NOT FROM THE 'ONION'.

1. The FOP opposed concealed carry for everyone but they passed that too. I am ashamed to say
I live in this state. Law enforcement gets 700 hours training, body armor and AR15s and they are
afraid to confront a killer and they want teachers with 24 hours to get slaughtered. |

2. From 2017: "Man Accidentally Shoots Himself at NRA Headquarters"
Surely, the first "accidental shooting by a teacher who was only armed because of America's mass-shooting threat" will be upon us soon. Hopefully, they don't hit a kid. 😕
A National Rifle Association employee accidentally shot himself while doing firearms training at the organization's headquarters, according to police.

4. What could go wrong?
And now with shooters in hospitals, they’ll want to arm docs and nurses, none of whom are interested in carrying a gun, as that interferes with doing the job. Where does it end?

5. Ohio trying to catch up to FL, TX, TN, IN, MS, etc in the Red State Shithole Sweepstakes
I think the world is seeing the end times of the 233 year long American experiment in Constitutional federalistic democracy.
Too many long wave Constitutional flaws and their secondary, tertiary, etc consequences will rip the Union of the States apart. I will be very surprised if the Union remains intact until the 250 year anniversary of the of the Constitution going into effect (2039). |

6. Teachers will be shot by cops in any active shooter event .
How will they know it is a teacher with a gun trying to protect children? Rushing in they will shoot anyone they see with a gun.

7. Forgetting the actual safety effects of gunz in classrooms, students will add "she threatened
to shoot me" to their lists of excuses and fake grievances against teachers. Schools won't be able to afford the legal costs of student accusations.
And, add to it kids who are already school-phobic. Now, they actually will have something to be afraid of. |
