It is interesting how they both live in Florida. I wonder when Florida will wake up.

The thing about DeSantis -

He is, as said above, meaner and smarter than Trump.

However, he has the charisma of a snail. He will get votes, but I don’t think he will get the worship quite the same way as Trump does. He is trying to buy the Trump voters with his endless trolling measures. Maybe it will work, but. . . .

Our hope is that they will tear each other up.

There is anecdotal evidence that tons of Magas are moving to the state to be near the Dear Leader.

I have very little hope that Florida will have any substantial Democratic wins in the next few years.

I really hope that I am wrong.

DeSantis acts like he's the king. Beyond scary. His response to covid continues to be the worst in the country. The older people (I'm 70) I associate with, of different political views, are disgusted with his ambitious approach to everything he does. Nothing else matters to him. I think Charlie Crist will beat him for governor in November. That doesn't mean he'll go away. Big money behind him. And it's Florida. Think Rick Scott, Marco Rubio. You never know. But DeSantis is not popular here. And we're going to have a summer of republican shit hitting the fan. It's at least going to be interesting.

(no insult to snakes intended). In some respects he might be even meaner than TFG; DeSatan seems to enjoy hurting anybody he can hurt just because he can, while TFG likes hurting people because doing so benefits him in some way. But DeSatan lacks one attribute TFG has, and which is essential at overcoming other deficits: Charisma. Because of the evil charisma he has, TFG was, and to some extent still is, capable of enthralling and inciting crowds of idiots - rather like Hitler did at his Nuremberg rallies. DeSatan is more like Eichmann - a dull but vicious bureaucrat, capable of organizing and carrying out all manner of evil things, but maybe not so capable of firing up the Delorables. I don't think DeSatan will draw crowds and inspire a cult of personality.

The ad DeSantis made with his kid in his lap as he praised Teump just made me want to vomit. He isn’t stupid, but he is a snake who will do or say absolutely anything to enhance his own power.

DeSantis, though, is a much smarter Trump. He has no foreign policy experience, but of course neither did Trump and it sure did show—at least to people who bothered to pay attention to the fact that Trump trashed the very positive opinion that much of the world had with the Obama presidency. Our standing in the world dropped significantly under Trump. I doubt DeSantis would inspire any trust among our allies. He is the most repulsive politician around today, even worse than Abbott who is just as much a liar but less flamboyant about it. DeSantis is trying to out Trump Trump because he sees that as his path to the White House. God help us all if that ever happens.

I have friends young (My nieces friends who are my friends too), and much older (My friends), who are trying desperately to get out of Florida, because it's becoming too racist, homophobic, and as one buddy said too catholic. Many older/middle-aged Cubans there are quite racist they tell me, live off the government dole, meanwhile call blacks/haitians lazy, dumb and worse. Not all cubans are racist of course, but Cuban friends tell me that their fellow Cubanos are nasty and reich-winged, and hate the very "socialism" that they live off of. We know DeathSantis is Nazi-lite. And his hatred of Haitians knows no bounds. The proud boys or one of those white nationalist groups--I forget which one my friend told me--has taken over the Dade County GOP, and are making inroads into other GOP organizations in Florida. So, you have a bunch of white nationalists running the GOP in Dade County. Lovely. My friend told me I don't know whose worse: The Catholic Church's influence on Florida, DeathSentences or the Cubans that are reich-winged, racist. He also told me that DeathSantis is trashing out Florida's economy, housing is horrible, taxes are getting sky-high, the environment is hideous, and that the homeless problems are getting really, really bad, and when he even bothers mentioning any type of homeless issue--he of course blames it on this current "horrible" Biden administrations--and them allowing illegal immigrants to flood our borders with vicious illegal immigrants coming in to take Americans jobs. He's such a piece of racist, lying shit. I remember him making fun a few times of News om and our states homeless/housing problems. Yeah, it's happening there in Florida now I've read from way out here in California.

My saving grace is that this same buddy in his 70's whose trying to leave Florida (He can't take the rebel flags & trump flags flying, the big trucks with tRump's likeness painted on them in his one quiet neighborhood, where there used to be 'normal' Republicans. He said he sold his boat, and no longer goes boating anymore in Ft. Lauderdale because of the un-American trumper's there, some with boats painted up with trump's likenesses on them) told me that he still has friends/relatives working for the government there in Florida, and that if they don't know anything else, they know that: DeathSantis is extremely corrupted and dirty. He said the dirt this man is responsible for is hideous. He's the quintessential mob boss, dictator wannabe president of the United States. My friend told me "I feel in my bones he'll get his." I agree with my friend. Unfortunately, the damage that ass is doing to Florida and his base is going along with it because they're just as crazy and racist as he is, and they all blame Biden for everything, and blame him for what tRump did during his administration. DeathS antis is always fighting with Biden, and when Biden has helped his filthy behind in the past, he's trashed Biden anyway That's what GQP'ers always do--blame Dems for all the problems that THEY cause, and when they crash the economy with unfunded mandates, or blow holes in the deficit by passing tax cuts for the rich who don't need them.

DeathSantis thinks he'll be POTUS in 2024 which is why he has that humongous war chest--raised all that money during the pandemic while people were dying of covid thanks to HIM. He's not making it to the Oval Office as potus.

We don’t want you: DeSantis’ effort to force feds to detain Haitian migrants sends painful message to advocates.

Trump's stupidity is his Achilles heel. It causes him to make errors in judgment that have prevented him from accomplishing his most ambitious goals.

He is the flesh and blood embodiment of the dark triad, but he doesn't have the intelligence needed to make the most effective use of his dark traits. Which we should be very grateful for, because we would probably be living in a full-fledged fascist dictatorship by now if he was as smart as he is evil.

DeSantis, otoh, is in the prime of his life and sharp as a tack. He has the potential to be much more destructive than Trump if he was to ever attain the presidency.

We went to our county DOH the other day for our 2d booster. As we waited for 15 minutes post-jab, I started reading the posters on the walls. One of them proclaimed the FL DOH’s main goal was making the state the healthiest in the country. On that same day he announced his refusal to order vaccine for the youngest of us.

Two/Four more years of DeSatan as governor will kill this beautiful, once vibrant state.
