My brother is retiring from the Post Office in the middle of December. He was eligible for full retirement at that time due to his age, 60.
What really enticed him to retire was the monetary buy-out that was offered to him. This offer was made to thousands of Postal Service employees and those who accept, will be retiring in December.
Now what the Post Office has done, will have a great impact on services during the Holiday Season, because they do not have the time to train or allow other employees to bid on routes and clerk positions at Post Offices.
What the Post Office should have done was offer the buy-out 3 or 4 months ago so there would not be this great upheaval during December.
So when you go to the Post Office during the season with your packages and mail and you wait in a long line, or you don't get your mail till very late in the afternoon, don't get mad at the letter carrier or clerk. Just remember how stupid management is.

(12,448 posts)Yes, management sucks and the people at the top are horrendously overpaid for actively destroying what they are supposed to be making work better. But as bad as it has become after a 30+ year long onslaught, it is still better than what other nations have and unimaginably better than what we will have if the conservatives on both sides of the isle get their way.

Oh and if Romey wins we expect the USPS to go away. Ergo, hubby's job goes away.
