.
The Colorado Republican told The Daily Beast she and her husband were surprised last week to receive notice from their landlord, a cannabis retailer, that their lease for Shooters would not be renewed after the building's ownership changed hands last month, and the lawmaker said they would have to find another location or close for good.
"She didnt explain exactly why her business was being kicked out," the website reported. "A person familiar with the arrangement said the property manager felt he had a 'moral' imperative to close the business, and had planned to lease the space to another restaurant."
Milkin Enterprises, the company that owns the building, was formed days before buying it, according to Colorado business records, and the two men on its incorporation documents run the cannabis dispensary Rifle Remedies, which shared an address with Shooters until 2019, and Boebert said she had previously paid rent checks to the father of one of those men, who owned the building through Meskin Enterprises.

The Republican tenant eviction mantra: Shit happens.
I wonder if she supported landlords evicting their tenants prior to this.
Wait! Shit Happens! Isn't that the motto of her restaurant?

The first tenant is a restaurant with asshole owners who would harass the other tenants use of parking space.
Well, after years of being there, that first tenant bought the complex and exercised some changes to rent and other things. The other four tenants were given 90 days notice, as in the renter's lease agreement. Not only did the lease agreement have a clause in there that if sold, the new landlord could exercise eviction on them --but-- it also contained an exit clause that the tenants could break their lease without penalty. The pastry shop was only 6 months into their new lease.
Guess what?
All four of the other tenants exercised their exit clause and vacated the premises prior to Day 1.
She closed up shop and retired from the service industry. The other three moved nearby. The new
owners were faced with an empty strip mall and no income.

like that story, thanks for sharing!

(10,037 posts)It's an attempt to generate some kind of moral equivalency and cast doubt on the owners because they sell that demon weed. Typical media BS.

(58,785 posts)But, fwiw, anyone stopping at this restaurant's more likely to find drivers needing lunch and a restroom and tourists taking selfies than drunken yahoos. It's close to an interstate offramp in little touristy Rifle, CO and gets a lot of its business from travelers passing through the Rockies.
She reportedly lost significant local business when she added political extremism to the gun-toting Western theme, to the point that a neighboring business at one point started a crowdfund to raise money to keep her from going under. Not their only management problem, of course, and some employees say her husband's income has kept the business afloat.
