I thought the whole point of America was that this couldn't happen.

Coercing anyone into childbirth contrary to their will is an utter abuse and violation of bodily autonomy and consent. This sits at the very heart of misogyny. It’s the moral counterpart to rape. It shatters the foundations of womens hard fought and hard won freedoms.
That’s the whole point with these far right religious theocratic stealers of progress.
Separation of church and state my arse….

such as Freedom From Religion, Americans United Against Church & State, American Atheists as those who the proverbial Chicken Little ("The sky is falling down" ). We were warning about concerted efforts to turn this country into a Christo-Fascist-Dominionist entity. We warned about Jerry Falwell and the Moral Majority. Everyone thought he was a buffoon, but we took him seriously. We agonized over the US Supreme Court, even when "moderates" like O'Connor and Kennedy were considered "safe". We didn't keep quiet. Everyone wasn't listening.

Counter-majoritarian difficulty

The counter-majoritarian difficulty (sometimes counter-majoritarian dilemma) is a perceived problem with judicial review of legislative (or popularly-created) laws. As the term suggests, some oppose or see a problem with the judicial branch's ability to invalidate, overrule, or countermand laws that reflect the will of the majority. The counter-majoritarian difficulty is often raised in discussions of United States constitutional law, particularly to discuss the powers of the three branches of the federal government of the United States.

Contents
Origins

Alexander Bickel, a law professor at Yale Law School, coined the term counter-majoritarian difficulty in his 1962 book, The Least Dangerous Branch. He used the term to describe the argument that judicial review is illegitimate because it allows unelected judges to overrule the lawmaking of elected representatives and thus to undermine the will of the majority. The problem stems from the understanding that a democracy's legitimacy arises from the fact that it implements the will of the majority (majoritarianism).

Terms like “legitimate rape” and republicans telling us that a woman can’t get pregnant from rape if she legitimately doesn’t consent to sex is all part of it.

Republicans are so gross when it comes to sex, rape, gender, etc. (when I say “gross” I’m not at all talking about kinks between two consenting individuals)

Why, oh why, do we allow unelected judges who may be appointed by an extremist, minority-opinion president to call the shots over the rest of us?! We cannot meet the future by embracing past mistakes. Trump has screwed us for years, perhaps generations to come…

this has been the stated goal of the religious right for decades, and was facilitated by long-entrenched malevolent ghouls in congress (some of whom may resemble turtles) gaming our political system and bending/ignoring the rules whenever it suited their purposes. they took advantage of the situation when hostile foreign powers hijacked their political party and installed a criminal jackass in the White House, and had him appoint judges that had been vetted and put on the "highly-suggested" list by the religious right exactly to engineer the reversal of Roe v Wade--it's been a decades-long project for them.

when the supposed conventional wisdom, especially according to men, was that they'll never really overturn Roe because it's one of their main campaign issues.

Wrong.

Those hateful religious nutjobs will move on to the next item on their list. Gay marriage, contraception, immigration, environmental regulations and it never ends...

25. The Dems must take a huge liberal action ASAP

This was done to make the Dems look bad. It was perfectly executed by the GOP. It happened when the Dems were in charge of both Houses and the presidency. To voters who are sleeping, it looks like the Dems did this or at least turned a blind eye to it. If Dems do not do anything big and liberal, this will ensure future losses. They need to do a huge liberal action to counteract the bad optics of this.

It doesn't matter if the action is against the Supremely Religious Court or if it's passing the ERA or it's pardoning all student loans. It has to be big, not measly, like the Covid checks. And it has to be liberal, not a GOP like thing, like a tax cut.

This action by the Supremely Religious Court makes them look bad even though the Christians and GOPers did it. Now the forced birth laws are going into overdrive and a busy little black market in the abortion pill will thrive. I can't imagine a drug corporation turning a blind eye to the possible profits. Just look how the drug corporations hooked us all oxycodone and despite people dying,

So abortion in the US will continue, and the Dems will still look as if they are partially responsible to people who are not paying any attention. The Christians and GOPers made it happen on the Dem's watch. The optics for the Dems can not be worse.

We know this wasn't the Dem's fault but sleepy neutral voters don't.

They have to take some huge liberal action now or they are sunk.
