Republicans open community center to draw metro Atlanta's Latino voters

On Wednesday, the Republican National Committee opened a new Hispanic Community Center in a strip mall in Suwanee, a Gwinnett County town that became majority-minority for the first time in 2020, according to data from that year’s U.S. Census.

The new GOP outpost is part of a multi-million-dollar outreach effort to build on the party’s growing appeal among Latinos, and engage with minority voters ahead of this year’s midterm elections.

The opposition, all they talk about is the free stuff they are going to give you … If you’re from Nicaragua, if you’re from Venezuela, you know where that road leads,” said insurance commissioner John King. King became Georgia’s first Hispanic statewide constitutional officer following his appointment to the job in 2019 and is running for election this year.

The Hispanic Community Center in Suwanee becomes the third brick-and-mortar outpost the RNC has opened targeting minority voters in metro Atlanta, with Republicans having previously opened a Black American Community Center in College Park last October, and an Asian Pacific American Community Center last September, also located in Gwinnett County. According to the party, Atlanta is one of just two metro areas nationwide to also have community centers targeting Black, Hispanic, and AAPI voters (the second is Las Vegas).

What is this 'free stuff' the cons keep trying to lie about in efforts to appeal to their base's greed.

"How dare they give free stuff to people I don't like...that should be MY free stuff!"

"Sure, the GOP is selling you the scare tactic about "all that free stuff". What they don't want you to know about is all that "free stuff" that goes to their big political donors in the way of tax loop holes and write-offs that you can't get as a hard working family. Also, that free stuff includes the medical care that many of you could not afford otherwise. Remember the number of times the GOP tried to repeal Obamacare because it directly benefited poor working families. The SCOTUS overturned Roe which forced no woman to have an abortion unless she chose to so now they want to scare you into thinking because your government establishes programs to help the poor and needy that somehow it's a communistic government. But really, isn't that why many of your parents and grandparents came here so that they could live under a government system that really reaches out to help its people? A government that helps you to achieve the standard of living that you want? No one is forcing you to take any government help. You have to sign up and give the government permission to help you. If you don't want the help you don't have to take it But you should never stand in the way of letting others have the choice of receiving needed benefits.

Just today, the GOP controlled SCOTUS did away with the governments ability to require their polluting corporate buddies to clean up their toxic emissions so that we all could have cleaner air and water. But they make you think that government regulation is bad and will do harm to you. But on the other-hand they took away a freedom that women and men have had for over 50 years when they overturned Roe. Sure, there are many among you who are against abortion. That's fine because in no circumstance has Roe REQUIRED anyone to have an abortion. If you are against abortion, don't have one. But it is unconscionable to stand in the way of a woman choosing to save her own life by having a critical operation to abort a damaged fetus or a birth that endangers the life of the mother. Nothing is more authoritarian than forcing a woman to give birth when that birth endangers her own life and sometimes even the life of the baby."

I may be way off base here, but it seems to me we can do a better job messaging than we have been. I could get down right ugly about the role religion plays in the scare tactics used by the GOP but I fear I would get trashed. I am just so sickened by what has happened to our country since RR started us down this road in the 80's. The GOP has been relentless in their cruelty and they will continue to be until real justice is served. It's even cruel how they brain-washed those who cannot think for themselves. Just really sad.
