A graphic novel adaptation of Margaret Atwoods The Handmaids Tale was permanently pulled from an Oregon high schools library thanks to the districts superintendent and his deputy who forced its removal after a committee couldnt decide what to do about the book.
We removed the graphic novel because we found numerous images of nudity, sexual assault, and violence throughout the graphic novel, Medford School District spokesperson Natalie Hurd told the Mail Tribune.
Superintendent Bret Champion and Superintendent Deputy Jeanne Graziol made the final call to remove two copies of the graphic novel from North Medford High School, Mail Tribune reported.
According to Oregon Public Broadcasting, the removal came after just one parent complained about sexual images in the book.

(11,446 posts)Its about 58% republican and very religious.
But also very nice and kind and a lot of good people who are brainwashed from religion to vote R.
My court is 50/50 D & R. People just don't talk about it here unless it's the crazy ones with flags on their house and surprisingly not too many. Oregon law only lets you put political signs up a few months before election so there are no signs most of the time.
After Kerry lost when I was living in CA I purposely moved to republican cities to get to know them and see why they believe as they do. Many years later I realize it takes a lot for people to change.

(1,967 posts)will have purchased a copy of the banned book.
Human nature being as it is, in the 1950s, "banned in Boston" on the cover assured that a book would become a best seller.
