oversee the votes on Jan 6th?
This fact gets brought up and then fades in the background. Does that prove Chuck was willing to help this attempted coup?
Not to mention the fact 197 members of house and Senate did or had plan to contest the election certification. How many of those 197 members knew and help with this coup attempt. Will we see them be held accountable?

(1,694 posts)He said that days before anything popped off. He was part of the mess too. The Secret Service was supposed to whisk Pence away so Grassley could count and toss out supposedly challenged votes.

His statement should warrant an investigation of his collusion with the insurrectionists.

(15,062 posts)My guess for next year - he will be reelected in November (barf) and then shortly after he is sworn in, he will retire from the Senate to "spend more time with his family". And then have the governor appoint his grandson to take his place.
Would love it if the J6 Committee would have a chat with him as well as Josh Hawley.

(94,331 posts)For all we know, someone told him Pence wouldnt show up and he needed to be ready step in. Doesnt mean he was aware of some effort to force Pence to stay away, which is a plot nobody has suggested.

(10,014 posts)the committee who told him Pence wouldnt be there. Pence not being there would be big news and the senile old bastard should have questioned that entire premise if he was told that.

Wouldn't mind hearing it.

Besides McConnell will never give up his de facto majority.

(15,180 posts)Obviously Manchin is already filthy rich and Sinema probably has more cash in her wallet than most Americans have earned during their lives.
There are other rewards that may be awaiting them.
I really doubt that either of them are dumb enough to expect some xian lord to whisk them away to a non-West Virginian Heaven, or that they would rely on a djt IOU. Probably a huge promise of extreme power. No longer needing to kowtow to their hilly-billies that elected them - just unadulterated oligarchic power. Sort of what we see in their dreams - Russia/Moscow/Putin.
Or maybe there's just the good old-fashioned blackmail/extortion racket. You deliver for us or we'll kill you, or spill your beans all over the highway.
Hope some film-makers for the future are gathering a bunch of background info now!

(46,490 posts)When McConnell lost big in GA, he activated Plan B.
McConnell is old school Machiavellian, I feel certain he has dossiers on all sitting members of Congress. He knows how to push everyone's buttons. He pushed the buttons of M and S big time.
S grew up dirt poor, so we can guess money turns her head. M is mega rich but loves power, attention, flattery. They may also have secrets they do not want revealed.
Both S and M were easy targets. I am sure McConnell has a Plan C as well.
McConnell is one of the most powerful men in the word. But keeps low key about it.
He keeps his troops under lock step control. And controls a great deal around him.
I seriously doubt we will ever hear the details about how he works and the dastardly deeds he has done.

(15,180 posts)I'll posit the McC is yet again just a face for a group that has much more knowledge and control than anyone under the shrinking repuglicon umbrella can muster. I think the turtle's biggest personal asset is how he mumbles his words and makes everyone think they are masterful.
I don't know if it is the normal axis of libertarians/profiteers/xians or maybe some other fun outside groups. Not to think that McC's China ties are important, tho.

(46,490 posts)You don't get to be one of the most powerful men in the world by ignoring world oligarchs.
McConnell is very smart, ruthless and devious. But he must have the backing of those richer and more powerful than he is. He is a useful idiot in the minds of the world oligarchs.
McConnell is not well spoken, no charisma, and singularly unattractive. His biggest asset is his ability to cheat, lie, threaten, cajole, manipulate others to his will. And carry water for the oligarchs.
Which oligarchs? I think McConnell sells out to the highest bidder on any given day.
But yes Russia, China, Saudi are top contenders for being his minders.

(891 posts)nearly the entire GOP side of Congress was in on it. At a minimum all the ones who still voted to not certify the vote.
Most were just smart enough to not be so public about it.
