https://www.emptywheel.net/2022/07/16/what-doj-was-doing-while-everyone-was-whinging-doj-wasnt-doing-anything/A nice long list of currently under active investigation. This thread is promising to be actively updated.
I don't want to repeat the list of trump "associates" and their various actions, subpoenas, and charges, but it is very satisfying. And most of these are necessarily difficult to investigate - these actors aren't particularly cooperative and some of them are actually cunning.

(15,751 posts)Lots of action. Warrants. And more warrants.
Apart from the rioters/patsies, where are the indictments of the key perpetrators. When I read about that, I will apologize for my skepticism.

(12,250 posts)I just usually point out that you, me, DU has no idea what's going on in the DoJ, as it should be, never tip your hand to the evidence or progress of the investigation until you're ready to drop the hammer, which, IMHO, is coming down the pike PDQ.

Ill believe it when I see it but, and this is only my opinion, Im not confident.
And as Ive also written before, I hope Im wrong.

(15,181 posts)They've wreaked havoc on this country in terms of its domestic and foreign policies and activities.
They've caused hundreds of thousands of deaths by not addressing the pandemic - even accelerating it.
They've destroyed families and children's lives. They've tried to gut domestic programs/education. The list goes on.
What would be an adequate recompense to get back all that we lost? How can we make a 76yo feel enough pain? I doubt he is capable of feeling shame.
I'd like to see all culpable - from the top to the bottom pay a commensurate price. If it is some big money-bags funding the insurrection I'd hope they spend their lives in prison and forfeit all assets - including those hidden away for their heirs.
Wishful thinking.

(16,273 posts)"no one doubts the DOJ is DOING stuff"
I wish I could say otherwise, but I'm not seeing much evidence of this. I feel like I see a lot of doubt where the DOJ is concerned. Do I think they're doing stuff? Yes, but I feel like I'm in the minority on that. I hope I'm not.

It seems strange whoever wrote this would use "whinging" and not include any other English/Irish words in the article. I'd say a have a better than average command of the English language and I've never heard of "whinging" before.
Whatever. I learned something today, and that's a good thing.

been going on in the legal (DOJ, etc.) world since/before the election of tfg. The commenters on that site are usually very sharp also (beware of 'bmaz') and there are enough trolls to get some interesting exchanges.
As the Urban Dictionary notes: Whinging is "When your lips are moving and you're complaining about something."
A good description of the usage of "whinge" is at: https://www.grammarphobia.com/blog/2007/03/on-whinge-and-whine.html
A: In modern English, whinge and whine generally mean the same thing, though whinge (it rhymes with hinge) isnt often heard in the United States except in the mouths of Anglophiles.
They come from two Old English words: whine from hwinan (to make a whizzing or humming sound, like an arrow in flight), and whinge from hwinsian (to make a sound like a dog whimpering). We probably get whinny, or horse talk, from the same root.
Both words are very old; whine dates from 1275 and whinge from 1150. Originally, whine referred merely to the sound. But whinge implied a wailing or crying: the sound was one of distress. Eventually, to whine also came to mean complain or express discontent.
Though Americans use only one word, whine, the British use both: whining covers a variety of meanings, including sounds made by people, animals, or inanimate objects, and whingeing (also spelled whinging) is more specifically for peevish or fretful complaining. The British sometimes use the terms together for emphasis: Stop your whingeing and whining!
I've been seeing "whinging" for quite awhile - I'm sure outside of Brit publications.

(19,186 posts)to check out Empty Wheel now and then. I don't think I'll include whinge in my lexicon from now on, but it's always nice to know. DU's spell check doesn't recognize it either. Take care, and thanks for the lesson.

(1,910 posts)All of that is wonderful, so the people working their are doing their jobs. But come January the Repug House will launch so many investigations, the DOJ will come to a halt. Repugs will haul every key person in front of a panel over and over and over again. Tons of records requests, over and over again. These people had operatives within DOJ for years and know exactly who and how to hassle to being any investigations of the key players to a halt.
Biden will be impeached by the House. Harris will be impeached by the House. Garland will be accused of everything imaginable. The 1-6 committee will all be accused of all sorts of things individually to muddy the waters. Pelosi and her family will be accused of everything.
Holy hell is coming, these evil people will have everything ready to go the first day they are sworn in. So DOJ literally has 5.5 months to accomplish anything they want to accomplish.

(15,147 posts)...on issues so vitally important to our democracy that hundreds of people should be working on this, it's not terribly impressive.
At that ponderous pace it will be well past the November elections, maybe late into 2023, if and when the DoJ gets anywhere close to indictments of Trump and his inner circle.
Meanwhile, the slow-motion coup sinks its claws deeper into the election system.
Ho, hum. Can't be too careful. Good things come to those who wait. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Uh, oh! Democracy has fallen. Damn. Couldn't see that coming. At least we followed normal procedure, and can feel good about that.
