"I read the news today, oh boy...." -- John Lennon, 1967.
It is actually good news this morning. Perhaps on two fronts. Hoever, I must warn the reader that good news on another front -- the recent rains have resulted in an explosion of growth among my favorite melons of the Cucurbitaceae family -- so I do not have the time this afternoon to author my unusual long and tedious essays. I'd suggest having one's wisdom teeth yanked out sans novocaine by using the pair of pliers nearst to you, if you seek to relive the sensation of reading my usual nonsense.
First, let's take a brief flashback to my July 22nd Pastry Recipe, where I noted that:
"Prosecutors look for the weakest links among groups such as this." -- H2O Man; July 22, 2022.
Now, we are all happy to learn that a grand jury, being run by the Department of Justice, recently heard from two human beings closely associated with the Albino Puff Pence. This reportedly focused on conversations involving Trump & Fiends, about fake electors. Clearly a good sign, especially as John Eastman, who I dentified as the weakest link in the pastry shop, was involved. Remember this as summer turns to fall.
Second, as part of my research for campaigning for my candidate in this NYS Congressional District, I'm preparing for my efforts after the August primary. I will work equally hard for either my candidate, or his primary opponent, come the general election. After reading some interesting reports on what republican focus groups are saying, I decided to contact a woman who runs a number of these groups.
I haven't lost my mind.
This lady is of the species I knew in my youth: republicans one could talk to. Rumors of their extinction appear to have come too early, for this one not only is opposed to Trump, but even more focused on defeating cult members in the November election. And within the focus groups, she said the majority are not only opposed to Trump running in 2024, but will refuse to vote for his cult members in November.
When I asked if any group was prepared to go so far as to vote for Democratic Party candidates, she responded that yes, this is especially true among republicans over the age of 60.
I say this in part in response to a number of OP/threads I've read on DU:GD recently, saying we should forget Trump. This included one where a good friend said that in campaigning this summer, they have yet to hear any mention of Trump. Now, I am not trying to tell anyone how to campaign, but in my own experience, when I start after my polite introduction of self, I ask, "What issues are important to you?" And over 50% mention Trump's name in their very first sentence.
This is a stick we have available to use to beat our opposition in November. We ned to pick up on it.

(13,912 posts)Trump can be a great motivator for our side. Of course we cant just focus on him. We need to defend social security and womens choice also. Those are the three issues that I believe will help us keep our majority.

(73,512 posts)It definitely isn't "all about Trump." The Supreme Court's overturning Roe is a huge motivator among those I've spoken with on this campaign. Younger voters frequently mention the environmental crisis -- something that doesn't seem to be a popular subject on this forum. We have a number of sturdy sticks to beat them with.

If Garland is already putting witnesses in front of the grand jury hes pretty far along with his investigation. Indictments are coming.
And you can correct me if Im wrong but my assumption is that witnesses dont appear in front of the GJ unless DOJ is confident that their testimony will result in indictment. In other words these witnesses have been interviewed several times and their testimony has been thoroughly corroborated.
Its a happy day.
Heres our Beatles tune for todays mood.

(73,512 posts)The media shall always be the media. It promotes and sells its products in the exact manner that McDonald's sell what people mistake for hamburgers. Other than Trump, the majority of people prefer a nice, home-made burger. That's what phone-banking and going door-to-door provides. Plus we get to ask what the person wants on it, very unlike McDonald's.

And tv news seems to fall into a positive feedback loop every time the Grotesque Orange Pustule squawks. They report, people talk about the reporting, they report on the talking about it and about each other reporting, ad nauseum.
I admit to being interested in good news about that thing -- legal woes, tantrums, embarassments.

(73,512 posts)raising chickens at age seven, I remember my father and grandfather saying that if a dog kills one of the birds, to hang it around their neck while it rots. This same truth applies to campaigning -- we hang the decaying Trump around the neck of republican candidates.

Not being too wise, I decided to try it with a strip of carpet after my Airedale ate the center out of an Oriental carpet. My friend never let me live it down. A strip of carpet just isn't a chicken. Thank you for bringing back a memory.

I'm not familiar with "9th Generation" but will speculate they are the young generation of republicans. If I'm wrong, of course, it won't be the first time. My hope is that when they understand they are being exploited, this might be a phase they go through on their way to becoming human.

Oh, I want a sealed indictment hanging over that excrescence he calls a head. I just want him thinking it will never drop and that even if he doesn't announce, the Republicans, in their infinite wisdom, will draft him. And I want his cult to try.

As the pressure increases -- and I think that when Eastman's lawyer tells Trump's lawyer they can no longer communicate, signaling John has flipped -- the republicans will suffer from the fecal matter that comes splattering out of his big fucking mouth. I hope that comes in mid-October.

(3,676 posts)Federal prosecutors obtain warrant to search lawyer John Eastman's cell phone in January 6 criminal probe
https://www.cnn.com/2022/07/27/politics/john-eastman-search-warrant/index.html
The Justice Department obtained a second warrant to search the cell phone of right-wing lawyer John Eastman as part of a January 6-related criminal inquiry, prosecutors said in a court filing Wednesday.
Investigators seized Eastman's phone earlier this month in New Mexico after receiving a warrant to take the device. Agents needed a second warrant to search the contents of the phone, which they received on July 12.
The warrant includes a so-called filter protocol, according to court records, to ensure that investigators do not accidentally obtain privileged information from Eastman's device.
The warrant is a critical step in the Justice Department's intensifying probe into January 6, 2021, in which investigators have zeroed in on the efforts by Trump and his close allies to overturn the 2020 election.
Eastman was one of the key individuals involved in pushing the plan for then-Vice President Mike Pence to overturn the 2020 election on January 6 by rejecting electors from certain swing states. Two Pence aides recently testified under subpoena to a federal grand jury on the role Eastman and others played in the lead-up to January 6.
Eastman had previously asked a judge in New Mexico to stop the department from accessing the contents of his phone, claiming that agents "forced" him to unlock his phone.
The judge denied the request, saying that investigators had followed the appropriate protocols to acquire the device, and that his communications were not protected under the First Amendment.

(73,512 posts)I think that it indicates that this rough, tough cream puff has been identified as the weakest link, filled only with hot airm. His legal team knows that the evidence is such that, in a relatively short time, he will have to try to be the first among the inner-circle that looks to make a deal.
Add to this, Trump's legal team knows that, too. So does the Meadows team.
