they couldn't sell me any because their computers have been down both times. I also refused to accept a package that was sent to me that I bought on E-Bay. It was mailed from LaCrosse, Wisconsin on July 14. It sat in some Chicago Postal Facility since July 15. I notified the seller. The sell ran a tracer on the package. USPS couldn't find it - so the seller sent me a replacement.
Today - July 29th - the original package was delivered. A number of steps all happened today and it arrived at my front door. I took this package back to the Post Office. Told them I'm refusing it and to return it to the sender. Because the computers were down - they couldn't give me a receipt to prove I took it back to the USPS.
When I walked out - I said to them that DeJoy should be fired. They agreed. They are really frustrated with their situation.
DeJoy has really destroyed the USPS for his buddy TFG.

(8,378 posts)Screw the board who won't get rid of him....
Fire his ass, appoint someone new, and let DeJoy and Republicans fight his case for reinstatement for the next ten years in the courts..........In fact screw the Board too and fire them for in-action to do anything about DeJoy' grifting ass and acting at the pleasure of the Republican party.........
They will be required to file appeal after appeal eating up years in the courts. The Republicans/Trump are infamous for this tactic.
In the meantime a lot can be straightened out.........

(22,908 posts)but I cannot. The USPS is not usable for my two businesses other than to send a letter or a bill. I could give a litany of the problems we've had shipping products via the post office but nobody wants to read that. It pains me to say it but it is true.

They also lost 2 of my Fed and State Covid stimulus checks and the one from the State can't get replaced so it is a loss of $600.

(21,951 posts)and put the corresponding postage on them and stuck it out in my mail box. Never had a problem and it was very inexpensive. I never tried to make money off of shipping charges like some others.
Think of all the other little sellers like me on these sites and others who are being harmed by that bag of shit DeJoy.
Who should we be complaining to? The only one I can think of is President Biden.

EDIT:

questionseverything
(9,536 posts)Before deass took over the post office delivered live chicks 🐣
When he deliberately slowed the mail, the chicks died in transit so that ended
Which took thousands and thousands of small chicken farmers out of the supply chain
Which lead to
The price of chicken doubling, tripling, basically flying through the roof
Which leads to
Every other meat costing more

(24,160 posts)I hear them chirping away in almost every processing center I go to, BUT...they aren't sent during the hottest or the coldest months for what should be obvious reasons. The semi trailers that carry mail are not climate controlled, so they only ship live animals when weather permits.

I'm not sure where you go this information, but it sounds very anecdotal to me. Yes, unfortunately it does happen that baby chicks and other fowl sent through the mail occasionally perish during transit, but believe me when I tell you, because I'm one of the guys that hauls them, the people loading trailers at the Processing and Distribution centers do not put live animals into trailers in 90 degree heat and the only time a trailer loaded with live animals sits long enough to get hot enough to kill them is from an extreme circumstance beyond the truck drivers control.

(9,536 posts)But I got it from reading du and talking to local postal workers and farmers
If the post office is doing a better job now than when de ass first was in charge, great
But
The system can no longer be trusted

I work for a US Mail contractor and haul US Mail between cities. I am physically on the loading docks and observe and regularly load and unload US Mail onto the trailers I haul.
I have seen with my own eyes, containers of live chicks, roosters, baby ducks and entire hives of honeybees get loaded onto trailers that I am hooked to and trailers of my coworkers. But I have also NOT seen the same shipments in the dead of winter or the heat of summer. IT. DOESN'T. HAPPEN.
Please tell me how that is "Anecdotal"?
Look, I get it that DeJoy is a giant horses ass, I'm with you there, OK? But not every single bad thing that happens within the utterly ENORMOUS US Mail system is his doing or happens because of a directive he actually made.
A perfect example is what happened with the mail sorting machines that were pulled out of many centers in 2020. Stories went round here on DU as well as other media that it was all DeJoy's doing and it was intentionally done to screw up or delay the delivery of ballots.
That line of thinking was absolute horseshit. NONE of it was true to the extent the stories made it appear.
Sure, many large sorting centers removed entire lines of automated machines and yes, a lot of it happened in the weeks and days leading up to the 2020 election. It absolutely was a horrible visual, BUT THERE WAS NOTHING NEFARIOUS ABOUT IT!
All of those machines, without exception, had been scheduled for removal for months, if not for over a year. And they were ALL, without ANY exception, antiquated, obsolete and the wrong type of machine for the majority of the type of mail the Postal Service handles these days.
The type and volume of mail has dramatically changed over the last two decades, moving from lots and lots of letters to lots and lots of parcels. People and businesses don't send as many letters, but people sure stepped up their internet buying BIG TIME, and those machines were to be replaced with machines designed to handle the type of mail that was coming in.
So, while I am by no means an expert on all things US Postal Service, I do have a credential that will let me onto the loading dock and in the back door of every single postal facility in the country. Unless you also have a similar badge and are privy to information currently unknown to me, please understand that I know what the fuck I am talking about.
Have a good evening.
Kali
(54,783 posts)first, chicks are still mailed, most of the time just fine. second small time chick raisers don't have much of anything to do with meat prices, or even the price of chicken. they really aren't even in the supply chain.

(8,957 posts)Mailed on 7/15. Tracking says on its way to the next facility this morning. Had to pay online. Couldn't take the stress anymore of perhaps, lapsing my COBRA. Monthly payment due 8/1. 31-dollar cancellation fee. 10 bucks to mail it registered. I could negotiate that once the money is reimbursed, or whatever happens.
Will keep the CC statement as receipt for taxes
Done.

(10,885 posts)If there's anything worse than bad service, it's paying more for bad service. At least you seem to have postal clerks who care. The ones in my city just say "pffffttttt" to any complaints.

And there's a foldout of 2022 Stamps (photo below)
You can order stamps on-line and they will be delivered to your mailbox. I've done it previously and been very happy to pay the USPS a small fee not to have to stand in line at the post office.

Totally Tunsie
(10,885 posts)That must be done by the USPS Board of Governors. Biden's responsibility is to appoint members to the Board as vacancies arise, and they get to decide DeJoy's future. What Joe must do is appoint Board members who will be favorable to jettisoning DeJ.

(13,446 posts)Biden had empty seats to fill on the Board.
By law, the last remaining seat could not go to a Democrat. The Board must be divided by law -- no party can have more than five members and there were five Dems at this point with one seat left.
Biden could have appointed an Independent to that seat.
But he chose Republican DEREK KAN, who previously worked for Moscow Mitch and also for Mrs. Mitch and for a Republican Finance Committee.
WHY would he appoint a crony of Mitch McConnell????????????
We have no clue.
But now, it appears that DeJoy will be safe. And mid-term ballots are coming.
Was Biden forced to make this deal with McConnell in some form of arm twisting? Silence. We don't know.
But we are likely screwn for the mid-terms.

It went four days without any additional info on the tracking...this morning it showed it had arrived in Sacramento, California at a sorting facility.
Still destined to be delivered on July 29th (TODAY!!!)

(1,732 posts)I sent a flat rate box to my son in Hawaii on Sat.
I live in Plattsburgh NY.
I checked on the package yesterday and was annoyed to find out it left Nashua NH yesterday at 3:30.
Tracked the package.
Went from Plattsburgh, NY to Springfield MA to Shewsberry MA to Brockton MA and then back UP up to NH..
I don't know where it is now.
This is not the first time this has happened.
I paid 21.50 for a package that has not arrived yet.
My son sent me a package from Hawaii last week.
It got to us in 3 days.
We both paid the same amount to ship yet, he got better service for his money.
When I finally got through to complain (1 800 #) the woman was apologetic.
But I told her I'm done.
I'll use Amazon from now on. Even to Hawaii, they are faster.
A clipper ship may be faster
mgardener
(1,732 posts)Meant I would buy from Amazon and have them send the stuff.
A HERETIC I AM
(24,160 posts)The US Mail hauls everybody's stuff, and so does UPS and FedEx.
FedEx moves mail and so does UPS, the USPS hauls FedEx and UPS packages and both move a percentage of goods to and from Amazon centers. Amazon does have an enormously large fleet of their own trailers, but many of the power units are owned and operated by contractors.
And while there are more and more of the blueish Amazon delivery vans (also independent contractors, NOT Amazon employees) a shit ton of Amazon boxes move through USPS sorting centers.

(3,200 posts)We have had two different bill payments either lost in the mail or returned as undeliverable. Both situations were problematic and time consuming.
Prior to those events, I drove the the local post office on a Sunday to mail a few things at the drive through mailboxes. After I dropped the envelopes in, I noticed that the mailbox was unlocked on the side with the door slightly open. Since nobody was behind me in the drive-thru, I got out of my car and examined both mail drop boxes (there are two boxes in this drive-thru) and both were unlocked. Anyone could just open the door and pull out the bin were the packages fell and pick items out of it. I retrieved my envelopes in this fashion, primarily bill payments, and began to look for any employee to inform about the issue. Eventually, some drivers came out of the building and i told them that the boxes were unlocked. One of them immediately went over and locked them up again. How long had those boxes been open? I called the police, they said that they couldn't do anything because no crime had occurred. I tried calling the post office but could never get through to anyone. I wrote down all the details to compose a letter, but that never materialized, and I am not sure how much difference it would have made anyway.

(62,088 posts)DeJoy isn't some business titan. He ran a small company bought up by XPO. When the merger was completed, XPO sent him packing. They had zero use for him.
He didn't run a company the scope of USPS. New Breed was 1/520th of the size of USPS.
He was obviously a de facto political appointee without any special qualifications to be the overlord of a giant corporation. It's not like he has a special organizational talent. If he did, selling to XPO wouldn't have been in the stockholders best interest. But, sell they did.
Unless there's clear evidence that his initiatives improved service & profitability (the former doesn't exist), why not just dump him for failure to perform?

The only things that show up (Late.) are bills. Not even getting junk mail.
When I applied for a Kansas driver's license, I was reassured that it would be mailed promptly. After two months, I went down to our local office. My license had been returned to DOT by the Post Office as undeliverable. My home is a large, century-old brick church. Ten feet from the curb. Mail box is right on the front of the building. House number is on three locations right on the front...one of them being in a six foot, vertical array in enormous numbers next to the front door.
The post office got a little visit.
