Liberal talk show host Thom Hartmann tweeted on Saturday his theory that ex-president Donald Trump stole personal information about American spies and sold that info to Saudi Arabia after a bidding war with Vladimir Putin for $2 billion, funneled through son-in-law Jared Kushner.
While some in media, including Mary Trump, have theorized that Kushner is the mole who gave Trump up to the FBI, Hartmann thinks Kushner could have been the go-between for Trump to sell the identities and personal information of American intelligence operatives.
Hartmann advanced his theory in the form of a rhetorical question, after positing that such information would be exactly the kind of thing for which Putin or Saudi Arabia would pay the Trump family billions.
Was there a bidding war the Saudis won with their $2 billion to Jared? he asked rhetorically as a way of floating his theory.

Sounds about right to me.

(2,145 posts)was a cover for the Saudis to pick up the nuclear documents they bought. That was why there was a sudden urgency or the FBI to grab the documents Trump stole. Who is going to notice a group of Saudi royals traveling with a huge entourage, golf clubs, etc.? Throw the docs into a suitcase, and no one is the wiser. Easy plan - send the kid over to SA, get them to "invest" in his "business", kid comes home, then do a golf tournament, sponsored by the Saudis, who stay at the Mar, as a cover. Perfect. Almost.
The scary part is who has Trump already sold classified document to?
PatSeg
(47,260 posts)I've also been wondering what he has already sold or passed on. You're right, that golf tournament was a perfect opportunity. Maybe that is why he looked like death warmed over. He was probably under a lot of stress.
I'm afraid to contemplate how much damage he may have already done behind the scenes. There is nothing the man won't do.

(1,703 posts)I've listened to Thom Hartmann for two decades, and he has never once given me a reason to question his integrity or the information he provides. On the rare occasions he gets a fact wrong, he always corrects himself.

The Dalai Lama invited him to visit, as did Pope John II, so since were engaging in guilt by association they must be Russian agents too. Three decades ago Hartmann founded a home for abused children in New Hampshire no doubt to brainwash them with Russian propaganda. Likewise the the numerous relief programs he helped to start in developing countries around the world. Another sinister plot to further the Russian cause. And his books on ADHD, or his anti-war activism in the 60s. Man, what a Russian dupe!
(BTW, this RT nonsense has been floating around here since 2015. Its hardly original.)

(2,914 posts)I have been aware of Hartmann for as long as I have been aware of DU (2002 ish). He is the real deal. I remember the lean years when it was hard to find a liberal voice. He has always been there. Fuck the detractors. They are uninformed as to the history of media.

Sidenote, Russia never used anything pro-American that many were saying, so literally they were once again cut off even while you say they were on RT.

the Kingdom from creating a nuclear weapon.
Despite these concerns, the White House appears to be proceeding. As recently as
February 12, 2019, the President reportedly met with nuclear power developers at the White
House to discuss sharing nuclear technology with Saudi Arabia.
Further investigation is needed to determine whether the actions being pursued by the
Trump Administration are in the national security interest of the United States or, rather, serve
those who stand to gain financially as a result of this potential change in U.S. foreign policy.

(58,785 posts)(as in formerly of RedState) was TRYING to insult liberals and Democrats by repeatedly calling Hartmann liberal and thus smearing us with this "theory"?
Frankly, I find it hard to pin Hartmann down as any LW type given how often he's taken for RW. Not many (any?) liberal Democrats have worked for Russian State media, helping them launder their propaganda to Americans either, though there's a long list of ANTI-Democratic leftists who have.
paleotn
(17,881 posts)though I find Thom Hartman annoying much of the time and rarely if ever listen to his program, I doubt seriously if he's in league with Russian state media.

(53,061 posts)Public, transparent and accountable, not going to be a source for a massive bribe.
I could list 10 reasons why but let's just start with three
1) Sovereign funds are designed to facilitate public partnerships with outsiders. It may be news to some but the house of Saud has billions of dollars of private money that could have been used and not reported.
2) Kushner didn't get 2 Billion, he gets to buy equity ipre IPO businesses and guide them to stock market launch. His returns will be accountable and he will be in competition with other funds. If he doesn't perform with 30% return he will lose the fund. The look at 100 companies to invest in one.
3) Trump', quite obviously, would never let go of such a huge asset so someone else would get a benefit, even a share.
Trump didn't intend to sell the secrets but to trade them for some other country to use their intelligence service to help get elected in 2024.
