This story could become interesting.
I guess he is not legally required until he is elected?

(10,960 posts)It is up to an informed electorate to make of that what they will.

(37,540 posts)I think his tax returns will show he paid no income taxes in the last decade. Pass it on.

(18,183 posts)but if he is the nominee I see no way out for him. He will kinda have to.

(4,759 posts)and he will probably release it sooner than later. I do find it astonishing that he thought he could get by without releasing it. I truly underestimated the degree of his arrogance.

(42,694 posts)Actually, his not releasing them at this stage is pretty much par for the course. Obama didn't release his until March and HRC released hers in April.

Also, as far I can tell, even Presidents aren't "legally required" to release their returns.

(62,444 posts)It will be awful. We will run with it. He will release the real one, and the electorate in general will assume it's all a tempest in a teapot over competing allegations.

(25,241 posts)it's that simple. Any presidential candidate should be required to release their tax forms. They don't release them it means they are hiding something from the American people. There should be complete transparency if one wants to be president.

(53,661 posts)That fiscal accountability crap is for government-loving lefties.
Mittens doesn't need any help from the tax payers, so that makes him a saint.
If he got out of paying taxes, that just shows what a smart business guy he is and how well he'd do as POTUS.
Asking about it is a sign of jealousy, class warfare and none of our beeswax!
That's what all the wingnuts think.
Liberals are stunned at the nerve of this expecting GOP candidates to respect the public's need to know.
Another mind-blowing learning experience this year.

(15,189 posts)He will release them only in a quiet room with quiet people. LOL! This is too heavy for the average Joe.

(39,369 posts)I think he's wrong. The media loves "what are you hiding?" stories. They're easy and they make the media think they're powerful because people almost always knuckle under. So, with a minimal amount of prodding from our side, the story should have enough legs to male Romney want to kill it.
The one caveat is media bosses might see an opportunity for guilt-free personal wealth shelters and wealth obfuscation if Mitt gets all the way to the WH without showing how little he pays. The corporate creeps of America will be rooting hard for Willard and if he wins while striking a blow against transparency so much the better.
