...how's this
Let's have a Blue State Sub-Constitutional Convention. We would adhere to our current federal Constitution but fill in it's political, social and monetary gaps as we saw fit. The Blue State Sub-Constitution would bring Blue States additional support and rights not currently being provided by the federal Constitution. We would fight any and all expansion of federal spending or power.
Blue States doing business in a brother Blue State would receive special governmental favors, benefits and treatment. We would have a rotating Blue State sub-capitol and parliament meeting regularly under a Blue State Sub-Constitution.
Like NATO, a Red State turning Blue could join the Blue States only if all member Blue States agreed. Any Blue State turning Red could also be ejected by a unanimous vote.
Let's become the United Blue States of America and tell those stonewalling, money sucking, social managing fascist Red States to fuck-off.

(2,910 posts)in the interstate compact about the electoral college, where member states agree to cast electoral votes according to the popular vote in that State. A poor workaround for the abominable EC, which, like the Senate, was created to empower the rich in slave states.
But what would define a "blue" state? We have some Dems like Manchin, who are tools of the oligarchy. Does that make WV "blue"?
One of the characteristics of what is commonly called a "blue" state is that these states pay more into the federal coffers than they take out. Maybe we could follow the money?

...the details, definitions and desires would be worked out in a Blue State Sub-Constitutional Convention to be ratified by the Blue States...
...it would break the current decades-long political stalemate and make the majority will more likely or possible in the Blue States...
...it could work...

(2,910 posts)Like other posts have pointed out, it's wrong to punish the minorities (e.g.) who live under MAGA tyranny.
But some sort of interstate compact might be useful. We already have the Reich wing examples of forcing other states to accept their gun laws, and the attempt by the Texas government to overrule the election in other states. All these attempts remind me too much of the escaped slave laws, where free states were supposed to enforce the ownership "rights" of slave states.
But I'd rather see workers and minorities vs oligarchs than state vs state. The state lie is too artificial.
I think that, in the end, we need federal laws setting human rights in concrete.

It likely goes into effect when enough states adopt it to go to 270 EV's.

(512 posts)It really irritates me when people write off red states as a whole. I have lived all of my life in a red state(as a progressive). So now I should be ostracized by fellow progressives from blue states? What kind of messed up thinking is this?
If you have never lived in a red area, you have no idea the aggravation one feels just being around very closed minded people. Count your blessings without counting us out. We have to work hard to get any progress at all.

and via the 10th Amendment powers not specifically granted to the federal government or prohibited to the states, are reserved by the states and the people.
All it would take is a well argued SCOTUS case.
