The latest I heard was on my sister's FB wall. It starts out with a call for women to vote...

Me: When you get a chance you should watch Iron Jawed Angels. Knowing what they went through really makes you think.

Sister: I've seeen it!!! Those ladies went on a hunger strike among other things... if nothing else, our vote can stand just to honor those divine courageous women!!!

Me: I talked to a woman who was probably in her 70s. when I was waiting to vote one day. She told me that she never saw her mother so mad as when she told her she didn't vote. Her mother knew what it meant to not have that right.

Enter Crazy uncle: DON'T YOU JUST HATE IT WHEN THE GOVT. TROUNCES ALL OVER OUR RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS ?

Sister (you go girl!): Yes I do Jim If you know that so well why would you be voting for the candidate that intends to deny rights to certain people, admittedly??? If you deserve your rights, doesn't everyone??? Hmmm. Which mainstream media outlet do you watch?

Crazy Uncle: THE ONE THAT THINKS PEOPLE WHO WORK FOR A LIVING SHOULD NOT HAVE TO SUPPORT THE ONES WHO WON'T . THE ONE WHO THINKS THE AMERICAN FLAG AND THOSE WHO DEFEND IT SHOULD BE RESPECTED . THE ONE WHO KNOWS THAT HUSSEIN OBAMA DOES NEITHER . THE ONE WHO KNOWS THAT THE PRESIDENT SHOULD NOT BOW AND APOLOGIZE TO MUSLIM TERRORISTS . LAST , BUT NOT LEAST , THE ONES WHO QUESTION HIS COWARDICE HANDLING OF THE BENGHAZI ATTACK ON AMERICAN CITIZENS .

Me: Mainstream?

Crazy uncle: MY STREAM --- KIND OF AN AMERICAN STEAM

Me: Neutral stream? MSNBC kind of reaffirms many of my biases. FOX reaffirms that of some other people. Both are more opinion than facts. CNN is more neutral.

He's a little too hysterical for me to ask him any kind of serious question. lol

Faux News tells lies, and MSNBC does not. Perhaps they both have a bias, but they aren't the same thing.

But the point was to go no acknowledge that I have a bias before being accused of it. It saves an irritating detour in the conversation.

Understandable, and I didn't think you were doing this, but MANY people (not on DU) say "both sides do it" and "MSNBC is just as bad, but on the other side" and I get sick of hearing it! It's just not true...I feel that if anything, MSNBC is scrupulous about showing proof of the things they cite, and giving legitimate sources for the things they report.

And yeah, I (clearly) have a bias, too! But a well-founded one.

I laugh every time someone tells me that Obama is going to take their guns away.

I ask them if they know anything about the Constitution and what it would take to change it. Then I say nothing more to them.

It will be illegal to pray in your own home.

It will be illegal to talk about God, Jesus or Ronald Reagan.

Schools will teach soshulism, communism, atheism and Mooslimism, not to mention science.

White people will be made slaves, blacks will be the masters.

That is why incoherent statements are made. That is also why if they are questioned and confronted with facts, they get frustrated and upset. I think all insurance is collectivist in nature, yet the right doesn't complain about the many other forms of insurance.

There is no complaint when the insurance they AND other people have paid into buys them a new car after one they were driving gets totaled. Or the life insurance they collect from grandma and other people after she dies.
I'm not sure they understand the nature of insurance. It is a distinctly socialist enterprise that has made a lot of republicans I know financially very comfortable.

"Lord, deliver us from Obamacare." Couldn't help but think "You dumbass, under the Affordable Care Act you can keep your kid on your insurance until he's 26, your pre-existing condition can't prevent you from getting insurance, routine screenings are covered, and the government will help you out if you can't afford coverage." What the hell is the downside? The problem is the Repukes have taken over the narrative and convinced a bunch of uninformed people that "Obamacare" is something it isn't. Just another of the many lies the rightwing media spews daily.

When their car gets totaled, they will get a new car not just because they bought insurance, but because other people bought insurance as well. Car insurance, life insurance, home insurance.. are socialist programs with a capitalistic spin.

When I hear it from a white man, who has never been denied his business permit, lives in a nice house, while his small business keeps him comfortable but not actually wealthy. His rights have never been challenged.

Maybe what he's talking about is his "right" to be as wealthy as romney. Which would be a "right" to be born into generations of wealth and have opportunities to be a ruthless venture capitalist. Who knows.

religion? The right to enslave those who owe you money? The right to deny women ownership of their own bodies? The right to shoot anyone to death who displeases you in any way? the right to deny access to medical care to anyone not wealthy enough to pay for it all on their own?

Well, they're right about that.

Like, the Kenyan / Terrorist / Muslim / Black Panther/ Commie / Marxist / Nazi / America-hater mask is STILL about to be whipped off, as we're all herded into to FEMA death camps (as soon as FEMA gets done doing what it's actually supposed to in NY / New Jersey, apparently) our guns are taken away, and ... whatever else their fevered brains have been programmed with.

That hasn't happened. The sheer brain-twisting paranoia is impressive. Like the NRA President who says the whole not-increasing-gun-control thing has been a secret ploy to get ready to increase gun control. The proof he's going to do it is ... that he HASN'T done it!

It's near-perfect reality inversion.

On the upside, the Republican Party can't last must longer on the fumes of the crazy pants "base" they've developed. America, at large, is slightly smarter than that.

Just slightly.
