(11,443 posts)I have two things coming up a road trip beginning of Nov and flying for first time since covid to my daughters in Texas, if she wasn't in a ceremony (CPA) I would stay home. That is mid Dec.
I really want to be the most protected for the flight but not sure if I should wait till November for shot. I got my last booster Moderna mid June.

(5,939 posts)Based on what this doc says, you'd probably want to be fully protected before your road trip, and mid-October puts you at 4 months. That also gives you time to recover from the vaccine if it knocks you on your ass! Plus you'll likely want your flu vaccine before your trip to Texas.
That said, my county here in Florida is always one of the highest when it comes to infection rates - so I take that into consideration, as well as my age. Even though I'm healthy and "just" 65, I'm still old - so I consider that to be high risk. And more, just about everyone I know who has been double vaxxed and double boosted has caught this damn thing (many in the last 30 days). Even though most experienced just mild symptoms, there were a few who wound up with pneumonia. I'm exactly 5 months out from my last booster, and if I could have gotten it sooner I sure as hell would have.
From what I've read, this new shot is 1/2 old strain with the other half comprised of the BA.4 & BA.5 strains.

(11,443 posts)I am 66 pretty healthy but do have blood pressure I take pills for.
Covid really got my hubby bad and surprisingly I didn't catch it being ultra careful.
I do get hit with side effects on all shots so I always plan for nothing days after shot.
