He basically validates everything Biden said about Trump and the MAGA Republicans.

Nothing else, short of the government shutting them down for some criminal offense, will do anything to faze them.

(18,122 posts)CNN is in flux. It has a new owner, and a new boss, who promises to remake the news channel and has told employees to be prepared for a time of change.
Most of those changes have yet to manifest. But one of the first ones canceling its long-running Reliable Sources show and pushing out anchor Brian Stelter has already unsettled some CNN employees and viewers.
But the bigger question floating over one of the worlds largest and most important news organizations is why its changing. Is it because the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, its new owner, wants an overhaul? Or is it at the behest of a conservative billionaire investor in the company who sits on its board?
That billionaire is John Malone, a legend in the cable TV business and one who has deep and longstanding ties with David Zaslav, the CEO of WBD. People close to both men insist that Zaslav is remaking CNN because he wants to for both business and editorial reasons, and not because Malone has told him to.
But complicating that narrative is the fact that Malone has repeatedly wished, in public, for CNN to remake itself. And his prescription happens to sync with the new CNN agenda: a plan to steer the channel away from what Malone and others call a liberal bias they say muddles opinion and news. And to shift it toward a supposedly centrist, just-the-facts bent.

(1,138 posts)The left side of the media Overton window wasn't moving as quickly to the right as the right side of the window, so the left side has to pick up the pace. There are some people (finally) bailing from the maga Republicans, and likely these people are more wealthy than average, perhaps the new cnn wants to pick these people up and give them maga lite (not saying the quiet part out loud). But also I think that our oligarchs sense a burgeoning swell of support for FDR type policies and they want to lessen the public's exposure to those views as much as possible.

(1,685 posts)Hit it right on the money. Hardwood is probably leaving because the billionaire that bought out CNN reputedly wants to make it more like fox. He didn't say it that way but odds are that's where he's headed because he's a right wing conservative.
Looks like Harwood took a parting shot and in effect is interviewing for a job at MSNBC. Hope he gets it

(894 posts)The core point he made in that political speech about a threat to democracy is true. Now, thats something thats not easy for us, as journalists, to say. Were brought up to believe theres two different political parties with different points of view and we dont take sides in honest disagreements between them. But thats not what were talking about. These are not honest disagreements. The Republican Party right now is led by a dishonest demagogue. Many, many Republicans are rallying behind his lies about the 2020 election and other things as well. And a significant portion or a sufficient portion of the constituency that theyre leading attacked the Capitol on January 6th. Violently. By offering pardons or suggesting pardons for those people who violently attacked the Capitol, which youve been pointing out numerous times this morning, Donald Trump made Joe Bidens point for him.
That is all...

(4,547 posts)For quite some time. They started pushing the anti-Biden theme heavily when we pulled out of Afghanistan.
I boycotted them along with MSNBC.
Over time, Ive come back to MSNBC when I want good solid truthful Democratic-slanted news.
As an aside, Im not thrilled with Rachels permanent 4 day a week replacement.
I cant believe CNN is doing this. This suicidal red-shift will not end well for them. Now we have to ride out the storm until they either pull their heads out of their backside or ?? Another ?? Network feeds the sane-minded masses?
Right before consequential midterms.

(2,679 posts)CNN lost a viewers. I think they are trying hard to their neutral status . They used to be the ones, that the world watched.
Harwood and some of the others are probably going to be gone.
Harwood saw further criticism after the personal email account of John Podesta, who was then chairman of the 2016 Hillary Clinton presidential campaign, was hacked and had its contents published by the website WikiLeaks in October and November 2016. Among the emails were several from Harwood that some critics said indicated an unprofessional level of closeness or collusion between the two, including an email from May 2015 in which Harwood warned Podesta that then-candidate Ben Carson could represent "real trouble" to the Clinton campaign.[11][12] The emails also revealed that Harwood had asked Podesta which questions he should ask Republican candidate Jeb Bush during a debate.[13]
