FBI agents found dozens of empty folders marked as classified during a search of Donald Trump's home last month, a court document shows.

The document, made public by a Florida court, provides an inventory of the contents of 33 boxes recovered from the former president's Mar-a-Lago estate.

It also shows top secret files were recovered from his personal office.

Previous court filings have confirmed the ex-president held classified records in storage areas at Mar-a-Lago, but the document unsealed on Friday showed dozens of files were found in Mr Trump's office.

Among the items recovered from that room during the unprecedented 8 August search were:

FBI agents found over 10,000 government documents during their search of Mar-a-Lago last month.
Among the findings were over 100 classified records, and 48 empty folders marked "CLASSIFIED."
The documents were seized during the FBI's search of Trump's Florida property last month.

In a Friday court filing, the Department of Justice publicly released the most detailed inventory yet of items that were recovered by FBI agents during their August 8 search of Trump's South Florida resort.

FBI agents found over 100 classified records — which included markings that read "CONFIDENTIAL," "SECRET," or "TOP SECRET" — and over 10,700 unclassified documents or photos.

In addition to the government documents, FBI agents also recovered hundreds of newspaper, magazine, and press articles, printed media, as well as photographs, clothing, gifts, and books mixed in with the records.
