"MAGA Republican" is a fitting label for Biden to use

I don't believe a MAGA-hat-wearing Republican would be immediately offended by that moniker. They are Republicans and they support MAGA. Biden even graciously qualified it by stating that most Republicans aren't MAGA Republicans. Contrast that with the mischaracterizing labels weaponized by the right: woke left, radical democrats, socialist liberals. These are fired off in a far less gracious, overly broad way. The repeated assertions form unsound rightwing media presuppositions with no actual support.

That said, there's a bit of an edge to the MAGA Republican label. It suggests that MAGA Republicans are somehow different from regular Republicans. There's a divide there. Divides can be widened and then attacked. It insults subtly without being undignified. It showcases a Democratic strength: being able to accurately characterize the Republican platform before effectively kicking at the foundations. There's no need to create straw man arguments when the real arguments can be directly dismantled.

I agree. Biden chose not to use incendiary language. He identified them as they identify themselves Mr. Ected Sep 2022 #3
In my experience, this enrages conservatives more than calling them doodyfaces. nt Shermann Sep 2022 #5

He referred to them as a subset of the Republican Party. He didn't denigrate the GOP; he isolated his comments to the members of that party that overtly challenge our democracy. Their thin skin is their problem.
