reached 125 on Memorial Day weekend in 1983. Seems to me Death Valley was hotter, and is generally. May be wrong though. That was a long time ago and I could certainly misremember.

...I was on a troubleshooting trip in SoCal.
It was also in September, and there was a huge heat wave.
It was 103 or so in Orange County.
One of the engineers and an operator that were helping me lived in Riverside. It was 108 there. And, I heard it was over 120 in Bakersfield.
The locals hated it. Even for people used to warm weather every day, those kind of temps are way too hot.
