2. They could, but I doubt they would.

It seems that many GOPers in both the House (with the exception of nutballs like MTG and Boobert) and the Senate privately regard TFG as an albatross and they wish he'd go away. As Speaker he would make as big a mess of the House as he did of his presidency, and the GOP caucuses would quickly become too shambolic to get anything done.

4. In principle you are correct, in practice I am not sure how this would play out

Let's say the magats in congress, i.e Greene, Gaetz, etc... put Trump up for speakership, I am not convinced that the gop reps would have the courage to vote for another candidate. I can easily them being terrified into voting for Trump.

win over Hilary. Just like no one saw it coming that McConnell would refuse to proceed on a SC nomination.

Or that a President wouldn't abscond with hundreds of classified documents.
Or that a President wouldn't routinely install acting agency heads to avoid vetting and Senate approval.
Or that a President wouldn't try to suborn state legislators and VP to try to pull off a self coup.
Or that dozens of people conspired, aided, and supported all of this.

You are much more optimistic than me. I honestly don't think most of the GOP cares because they can see the light at the end of the tunnel in winning their ideological hegemony and a christian theocracy.

6. Revenge seems to be one of their main points on their platform as well.

So I am not sure I will rule it out. But I think it's still unlikely.

Another problem is, House speaker is probably beneath TFG at this point. He thinks he needs to be president or king.

9. That is a good point. His narcissism probably wouldn't allow him to take that position.

IMO, Donnie thinks he did a deal, he won the presidency and now it is literally his. He owns it, he owns it all.

He didn't sell it to someone else so it is still his.

This is very tinfoil hat, but if did take it, we should be look hard at what plan he might have to get back in. Of course to do it without assassination he would have to control both houses and impeach Biden and Harris.

He would be part of the way already, because the christofascists already plan to impeach Biden just to get even. Your revenge motive again.

would put the US military into a horrorshow conundrum, as it clearly would be an active coup d'état, and it would come to a point where Trump would likely order them to do unlawful things.

That entire nightmare scenario is EXTRAORDINARILY unlikely (thank fuck) on almost every front.

If it somehow, someway, hellishly did occur (and the military plays along), and IF the Rethugs also control the Senate, I would also be terrified for Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and Ketanji Brown Jackson (and maybe even John Roberts), as the MAGAt christofascists would LOVE to have a crazed 9-0 RW rubberstamp with (for ANYTHING, even the most cray of cray things, with a large cushion to boot) SCOTUS, with the 3 (or even 4) noob sham fash justices joining the 2 most radical RWers already there (Thomas and Alito, and if 4 crazed hack RW noobs, only one is needed from those two to get to 5 votes) to ram through Constitution-obliterating madness.

It is staggeringly unlikely, far more unlikely than Trump, once he secured the Rethug nomination, then beating Clinton in 2016.

Happen if the GOP gets the majority in the House, then we need to broadcast this loud and clear.

Anecdotal comments are easily buried and many, including myself until I confirmed this to be the case, would just dismissively scoff and say: “Hell no, that can’t be right. You must be misinformed.”

Seriously, this is really frightening. This needs to be repeated so voters are aware of the gravity.

Every Democratic candidate needs to mention this at their rallies and speeches and their media posts. We need to make sure voters know about this insanely undemocratic rule.

That’s one of the silliest proposals from the Republican fringe. Trump doesn’t want the job and the leadership figures won’t give up their opportunity.
