With Midterms Looming, McConnell's Woes Pile Up

WASHINGTON — Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., the minority leader, spent the summer watching Democrats score a series of legislative victories of the sort he once swore he would thwart.

His party’s crop of candidate recruits has struggled to gain traction, threatening his chances of reclaiming the Senate majority.

And this week, his dispute with the leader of the Republicans’ Senate campaign arm escalated into a public war.

As the Senate prepares to return to Washington next week for a final stint before the midterm congressional elections, McConnell is entering an autumn of discontent, a reality that looks far different from where he was expecting to be at the start of President Joe Biden’s term.

The more deeply and profoundly he suffers, the better I feel. It's like a reward... Comfortably_Numb Sep 2022 #1

I think McConnell knew he would take some big hits as the price to pay to get rid of Trump. Irish_Dem Sep 2022 #2
I belief this will be his last term. He will not run again unless he is Senate Majority Leader. Midnight Writer Sep 2022 #3

Kind of like cancer treatment surgery and chemo.

I think he had a big hand in the J6 House Committee hearings, and has been behind the scenes
working against Trump.

He also knows he owes the Dems as they are the ones taking the heat for going after Trump.
So is paying the piper now.

His biding his time, he knows he has an incredible amount of power and will be fine.
