There are too many alternatives selling a stronger brew to conservatives.

And any conservative viewers they may pick up will be more than offset by viewers they lose.

The guy is probably still Republican, but he was voicing hopes of what a government under unified party control could accomplish. It’s possible in retrospect he wasn’t so impressed with the results.
