Seven shot in Norfolk, including Norfolk State students, with two fatalities
The shooting occurred near a college campus, in the 5000 block of Killam Avenue, police say

The burst of violence erupted around midnight at a party in the 5000 block of Killam Avenue near Old Dominion University, that was attended by several Norfolk State students, the school said on its social media platforms.

Michael Goldsmith, interim chief of the Norfolk police, said at a news conference Sunday that a person pulled out a gun and began firing after a “fight broke out” at the event, which had been advertised on social media. Officers found three men and four women with gunshot wounds when they arrived, police said in a news release.

The victims were all taken to a hospital, where two later died. Police identified the man and woman who died as Zabre Miller, 25, and Angelia McKnight, 19.

McKnight was a second-year pre-nursing student and New York native, Norfolk State University President Javaune Adams-Gaston said in a statement posted to the university’s Instagram.

“Angelia’s life was important and every Spartan is a key member of our campus,” Gaston said. “With our strength, we will continue to work together. Our culture of care embraces pulling together as a Spartan family during these challenging times.”
