New England Flooding

I-95 North, other roadways closed due to flash flooding

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — People are urged to stay off the roads if possible as heavy rain causes flash flooding in parts of Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts.

Both sides of I-95 were closed due to heavy flooding in the area of Exit 18 (Thurbers Avenue) in Providence. As of 5 p.m., southbound traffic started flowing again, but the northbound side remained shut down.

The R.I. Department of Transportation says maintenance crews are working to clear clogged drains on the highway and around the 6-10 connector. There’s no timeline for when the highway will full reopen.

But given the Severe to extreme drought in the region, I'm happy for it.
