Washington PostTheresa May officially resigned Tuesday as Britains prime minister, making way for Boris Johnson to form a new government.
Johnson will choose his own Cabinet ministers, but one key member of the prime ministers team will stay on the job: Larry the Cat.
The 12-year-old tabby is the governments official chief mouser to the Cabinet Office. Larrys unofficial Twitter feed proudly notes that hes been in office longer than the current leader of any political party in the United Kingdom.
Larrys tenure in office began with former Prime Minister David Cameron, who tired of television crews spotting mice (and the occasional rat) on the doorstep. Cameron and his family picked out Larry at a London animal shelter in 2011.
The gleaming black door of Number 10 Downing Street the official residence of the prime minister offers the backdrop for Larrys daily catwalk. He has been photographed with heads of state, including President Obama.
Hes also known for catfights with Palmerston, the chief mouser at the nearby Foreign Office.
Some in government just never get along.

(12,647 posts)2. Ms. Truss doesn't look like a cat person. Or a pet person in general.
And from what little I've seen about her and her political activities, she is one who likes pets, kids, or constituents only as background when needed.
It would be interesting to see if Larry will even interact with her. Cats (and Dogs) know what a person is really like.

That is old for a cat. I have had several cats own me over the years but not one of my feline overlords lived past 15.

He knows the important things in life: food, water, having a warm bed, head scritches, and .... worldwide adulation.
and he knew to stay away from trump
