Since when does an opinion being legally flawed matter?

Hasn't the Supreme Court showed us that precedent, legislation or legal reasoning doesn't matter when they want to rule a certain way.
Hell, they find a justification any way they can, even if it is a 16th Century witch hunter or a never before seen and untenable reason like "reputational harm".
