LIVE on the floor of the U.S. Senate to announce my strong opposition to the so-called side deal to build the Mountain Valley Pipeline. We dont need to make it easier for the fossil fuel industry to destroy the planet.

(8,698 posts)Specifically, this deal would approve the $6.6 billion Mountain Valley Pipeline a 303-mile fracked gas pipeline spanning from West Virginia to Virginia and potentially on to North Carolina. Were talking about a pipeline that would generate emissions equivalent to 37 coal plants or over 27 million cars each and every year.
M. President: It is hard for me to understand why anyone who is concerned about climate change consider for one second voting to approve a pipeline that would be equivalent to putting 27 million more cars on the road each and every year. Bernie

Combating climate change is more important than fossil fuel profits. I will not vote for any bill that makes it easier for Big Oil to destroy the planet and that includes approving the Mountain Valley Pipeline. The Continuing Resolution must not be held hostage by Big Oil.

(58,785 posts)from "over the pond," we may be the only ones to hear this indication that the side deal's going to pass. (Sanders is a mostly reliable +1 to the Democratic caucus; he may constantly object to Democratic bills, but he doesn't vote against our legislation if his vote would kill passage.)
Btw, I believe there're now @20 miles to go on the pipeline. Now that the opposition goal of delay, delay, delay completion has mostly run its course, it'll be on to scrutinizing implementation and monitoring.
