(4,394 posts)Was checking MSNBC clips on YouTube for something to watch with my morning coffee and the headlines jumped out.
Here's the local coverage on what happens next if anyone is interested on how it is being covered across the Commonwealth: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/queens-death-king-charles-in-place-heres-what-happens-now/4P45W4SHAFRGQAMGVSKRXNCXSU/
Just as a side note I'm assuming you meant to say "stuff" but you might want to fix your typo.

(51,308 posts)I was annoyed when I heard the chime, but then glad shed told me. This was just when they were announcing she wasnt well, but I think we all knew at that point.

(34,367 posts)I saw that the family was flocking to Balmoral and I knew the end was near. Especially since the video chat with the Privy Council was cancelled yesterday. If she was conscious, she wouldn't have missed it.

(3,621 posts)about fifteen minutes ago and turned on MSNBC to get verification.
I'm neither a fan nor a detractor, but she's been such a fixture on this planet for so long that it just won't seem right having anyone else on the throne.

(2,496 posts)saw him in cuffs. The Guardian confirmed it. I didnt hear any monarchy stuff, though I know thats what he believes in. Just the usual empty ranting.

(86,515 posts)Early in the day, then people started talking on DU, about how everyone was talking about her on teevee and wearing black. I figured that when the family had assembled it would be announced.
I went outside for a little bit and when I came back in, the radio was covering the 10am update and that's where I heard it announced.
Checked in to DU again and that all there was, discussion about her passing.
All of my life there has been a Queen of England... until now.

(11,574 posts)She was queen my whole life until today just like you. Her portrait was on the walls of our schools and public buildings, on our money, and everywhere. She was like another grandmother to my brother and me. She had standards for decorum that translated even to us non-blood-related kids. (Our real Gran brought her up constantly: "Would you behave like that in front of the Queen?" We also knew of her constant service to others as well as her sense of humor. She truly was the Grand Matriarch. Her little feet left big shoes to fill for King Charles and a hole in the hearts of so many. Sad day.

(11,791 posts)I think the monarchy is fascinating from a historical perspective. I'm fairly certain it generates quite a lot of money in tourist dollars. I can't vote in the UK, but I'd be curious as to polls of the British public regarding the monarchy nowadays.

(5,164 posts)I was working for hours and then fell asleep, I woke up and decided to check- I saw it on a live feed on a British paper site. And burst into tears not long after. There has been so much trauma and loss for me these past few months and years
with my father dying and my dear friend dying about three weeks ago. And the loss of 2 of my outdoor furbabies who I tried to save.
We have citizenship with Canada also and my mom was Scottish so I have been officially a subject of the queen for many years, but I didnt really expect this reaction- it feels like another terrible loss and change in the world for the worse. I saw the queen as a voice over the years against fascism ultimately. No matter what I felt about a monarchy system etc. It seemed like she would live forever, but no one does. I am guessing covid damaged her like it did my father.
It is very sad for her family and friends. No matter the age, people have lost a parent, grandparent, etc and friend. Its a huge loss no matter the age. You can never have another parent again, you can never have that relationship again.
