Hortensis
(58,785 posts)Of course, in that area it was especially real for many.
"Remember-tinis."

(25,258 posts)The rest of the menu sounds like very local type food.

9/11 falls on a Sunday this year. Likely most churches across the nation will do remembrances, hundreds of thousands...

(25,258 posts)This is from a place called Jalisco Grill. It's one of the nicer places.
Alot of Tex-Mex places are named Jalisco this and that (I think it's because Jalisco is the epicenter of mariachis) None of them service Jalisco style food...

I'm a one trick pony: Chalupas for me!! They're generally the healthiest

(7,412 posts)One enchilada, one taco, served with rice OR beans.
We'd always order it with rice AND beans. There would be this awkward silence, and then the waiter would say "Si Señor".

(18,497 posts)Still bad taste. Sure.
But much different than a frozen dessert place being called Custard's Last Stand?
Probably need to wait a few more decades. Agree.

(46,083 posts)supposed "wit" when they composed this menu. They really must have thought it was funny. Like writing for Jimmy Fallon or something.

(25,258 posts)It says country club, but looks more like a nursing home!
The prices are too cheap for a country club

(10,133 posts)was very popular, and made quite a bit of money for actress and theater owner Laura Keene. Haven't seen the play (surprisingly, no one seems to stage it much any more), but the script is available on line.

(1,783 posts)...they offered free coffee and mini-muffins "in honor of those we lost on 9-11" back in 2013. To add insult to injury, the offer lasted all of 30 minutes!

(10,133 posts)especially the chowder: with the possible exception of the flounder everything looks overly breaded/floured or drenched in cheese, the sort of things that can be pulled out of a freezer and assembled by minimum-wage kitchen staff. Cheap though (from my Bay Area perspective).
And the Remember-tini: I like rum, I like lime, I like coconut, I like pineapple - but somehow the whole seems like it would be a lot less than the sum of its parts. (and just because something is served in a cocktail glass doesn't make it a "X-tini" /peeve)
