We were "united" for a few weeks, and for most of those weeks most people were united in hating Middle Easterners that had nothing to do with September 11th, per Dubya's deflection. Soon after 9/11 came shootings at mosques, the PATRIOT Act, an illegal invasion of Iraq, and Gitmo and we sure as hell were done being "united" with people who evolved into the the Tea Party first, and now MAGA. This cartoon is a weirdly nostalgic view of those horrifying times.

Hate is never a uniting force. By definition it only serves to divide and agitate.
