With Queen Elizabeth II's death, what changes in the UK? The national anthem, money and more

Not only will there be a new royal leader of the United Kingdom after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, but things around the country – from the national anthem to money – will change as well.

After the announcement of the monarch's death Thursday, her eldest son and heir, Prince Charles, 73, became King Charles III.

The national anthem

The national anthem for the U.K. is "God Save the Queen." With Charles on the throne, the name will change to "God Save the King."

Money

All currency in the UK, known as the pound sterling, features the queen's portrait, which will eventually be replaced with the king's portrait. The Guardian reports about 4.5 billion bank notes are in circulation with the queen's portrait, and it would take at least two years before the king appeared on them.

I believe Canada likewise use her portrait.

They should just issue "forever monarch" stamps and currency.

As the old money wears out, they use king money. Doesn’t sound expensive at all. They used the last money 70 years. Seems like it’s not a daily thing. God bless Britain!!!!!

With most lasting 5-10 years in circulation. And stamps obviously are continually made and used. They will be replaced gradually over time. Will probably take the better part of a decade for most of it and even then people will hold onto the old bills with the Queen.

Dumbass missed a golden opportunity to release one more lump of cash right before the election (even if it was 1/2 the previous amounts) but Mitch talked him out of it.

The band played the Star Spangled Banner, and then God Save The King. After the second song finished, Roosevelt turned to Churchill with a glint in his eye, and said, “Winston, I’ve never heard My Country Tis of Thee played better!”

They will start printing her picture on lots more things now, and printing King Charles picture on everything, too.

So many commemorative items will need to be produced and sold.
