to Americans--jarring, in fact, I can not get over how incredibly snide and inappropriate is the coverage (I watched a few minutes this morning prior to taking the dog out for her long walk) from Katy Tur. Uggh. Using terms like this is all a "rubber stamp" (not "validation," not "formalization" ) and then ridiculously derisive comments about what, yes, we consider theatrical aspects of the costumes and wigs, and other aspects.

I am infuriated with such crap. We don't have to agree with another county's traditions, but she's a guest in that country covering it and damned well ought to find some tiny bit of tolerance. She has a history of snideness in her political coverage too, but it is on full display today. Uggh.

She was on air within hours after the death and kept droning on about Harry and Megan and division in the family. There were more positive aspects of the woman’s life that she could discuss at that point. I turned her off.

It's interesting to see. Having lived there and having lots of British friends and reading British spaces, it seems like Americans make a lot of assumptions about how the British feel on certain issues. When, really, it's just how Americans feel about things and they're trying to insert those opinions into pantomimed British mouths.

One of the biggest is the assumption that the British all hate Charles - and really, really hate Camilla.

That is very much not so. American media elevated Diana to near sainthood while villainizing Camilla into the earth. However, the British have a much more complicated view of that whole mess and, having lived with it for 25 years instead of merely dipping their toes into the tabloids from afar, just don't have the same level of care about that narrative that we do.

They're mostly over the whole thing.

It's somewhat similar with Harry and Megan. They hired a lot of PR heavies to promote themselves in America. That Oprah interview was a calculation. They wanted to transport their celebrity to here and so we have been heavily bombarded by their version of events with narratives cynically manipulated to press our buttons and render them maximum visibility and sympathy.

Ironically, it worked on one level - they are perpetual victims - but failed on most others. I do not know anyone anywhere who gives a shit about anything they do on Netflix, Spotify, or other media. They're like a celebrity couple for other celebrities. They care, while average Americans do not. Their job is to be rich and famous. That's it. Money money money.

The Brits recognize a lot of this, while we've mostly been exposed to that PR machine. They do not have the same sympathetic view that we do.

This isn't to say Diana wasn't screwed and the tabloids weren't horrible to Megan. But when you kind of live with it rather than just view it from afar, your opinion is more complicated and nuanced.

So some in our media have decided now's the time to spit out their "I read something on Twitter" hot takes that are fairly tacky and clueless.

It's all put out as serious.
They want us all to think the royals are special when they are not.
This bunch love them and none should find it all silly.
That bunch hate them but can't stop talking about them.
No one can stop talking about the royals.
Katy Tur dosen't give the respect? the posters think she should so trash Katy.
I like Katy she finds a lot of this silly. She's a decent reporter, and who wouldn't pass up a chance to report on all this silliness?
One doesn't have to take it seriously to report about it.
