In a speech in Colorado on Friday, Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts fired back at critics of the court that has come under fire for judicial activism with little regard for history and legal precedent.
Following a session that saw the 6-3 conservative court throw out the 50-year-old Roe v. Wade ruling that protected a woman's right to make their own reproductive rights decisions, the court is set to convene again on the first Monday of October under a cloud and fears of more extremist opinions.
According to the Washington Post, Roberts -- who has been accused of losing control of the so-called "Roberts Court" -- told the assembled audience made up of attorneys and judges, "The court has always decided controversial cases and decisions always have been subject to intense criticism and that is entirely appropriate."

Hey Roberts count me as one of your fucking critics with a capital C.......everyone knows what you did on the woman's right to privacy and gutting the voting rights act, and saying that moola is free speech if you have a galizzion, dollars but you decided that in this term coming up you and Leonard Leo federalist society DARK MONEY buddies are going to hear two cases, one about State Legislatures just screwing over the voters in North Carolina that will have ramifications across the entire country, but you decided to take up a case to see if people on Medicaid should or should not get it...... after that what's next Social Security and Medicare.......and your whining about people being critical........ you have a current justice who's wife wants to over throw the duly elected government, then you said this........ quote:
Continuing in that vein, he fired back at the court's critics.
You dont want the political branches telling you what the law is. And you dont want public opinion to be the guide of what the appropriate decision is, he explained Yes, all of our opinions are open to criticism. In fact, our members do a great job of criticizing some opinions from time to time. But simply because people disagree with an opinion is not a basis for criticizing the legitimacy of the court.
The legislative branch wrote the law idiot to help people with there rights......not take them away....have you read your "opinions"........

He needs to man up and get the kooks under control.

(2,804 posts)But he hates it when he gets called out in public? He can't go to the ball game or get drinks in the Metro Washington DC area without being sure he won't get screamed at. Sorry bud, your money and power doesn't knock down the clear first amendment right to call you an asshole in public. After all if a bunch of men can make decisions about a woman's body with out any direct knowledge or experience, then why can't us laypeople have some say about the law?

(8,767 posts)the USA.
Roberts has a smoother veneer than the likes of Barrett, Kavanaugh, Thomas, and Alito but that is all.
Our legal system is nearing failure and is a huge suck of treasure that is against an egalitarian USA.
Roberts is the current leader.
I am older and ill so likely will not see the outcome of the mess (unless there is total meltdown and chaos) and have no clue on how to put the nation back together.

Quit destroying precedent. Quit TAKING RIGHTS AWAY.
Can't do that? Then get used to being called what you are: an illegitimate arm of republicans.

(82,849 posts)Any recent Court decisions that made you a second class citizen without bodily autonomy? Any recent decisions at all? Any recent Court decisions that conjured a prohibition of regulating air and water quality out of thin air? But I suppose that would upset only people who drink water and breathe air, and there's nothing in the Constitution about a right to do those things!
But your little fee-fees are hurt by criticism of your Court's decisions? Gee, that's tough. Not as tough as forcing a 10-year-old rape victim to carry the resulting pregnancy to term, but tough nonetheless. Maybe it's time for you to get out of the kitchen if the heat's too much for you?

(19,972 posts)How many of today's SCOTUS judges were nominated by a President elected by a minority of the electorate? How many were nominated and confirmed very shortly before an election making a mockery of the phony precedent set by the same corrupt mob? How many were nominated by an incompetent, corrupt pResident who was impeached twice and may soon be indicted and even jailed and prevented from ever holding office again?
How many SCOTUS judges were nominated by a President representing a majority of the electorate but blocked by a Senate representing a minority of the electorate? How many candidates were not even nominated because of the certainty they would be blocked?
Ask John if he supports minority rule.
