The Passing Of Old Women Who've Led Admirable Lives.

We live in a large retirement community here in Orange County California. Once strong, healthy, remarkable old women die in our village quite regularly, no fanfare, just attended to by such family and friends as the have left.

So, the “Queen’s” death? May she Rest In Peace. I offer up the same respect I do to the ending of my neighbors journey’s on destiny’s road. No more no less.

That said, the pomp, the wasteful opulence, the remaining silliness of monarchy and its ongoing schmooze with Oligarchs is at least an embarrassment. This ceremonial celebration of stacking one group of humans over, and obviously above, all others is the very root system of the hundreds of forms of racial, social, and caste structures flourishing today.

But, um, we're not Brits. I find this barrage of media offensive and annoying.

Many Americans, for whatever reason, feel some sense of cultural connection to the British monarchy. I’m not sure why that gets peoples’ knickers in a twist.

I mean I hate pro football. But I don’t get pissy about it being omnipresent this time of year.

As her coffin processes down the highway. The goat was a lance corporal in the Welsh army for 10 years. Corporal Billy Windsor. It’s all camp.

I'm really not surprised the same will be true for her funeral.

8. She was the Head of State for 70 years. Not just an ordinary old woman.

That said, if that’s how the Brits want to spend their money…
I am an American. For us to go gaga over the monarchy is really a betrayal of our principles.

a figurehead of an influential nation for 70 years is momentous, and though I think she was a well-meaning person even though she lived her life entirely in a bubble of bigotry and entitlement, I don't really care about pomp surrounding her death. So I don't choose to consume it.

I haven't figured out how to avoid all the discussions on DU about how terrible it all is, though. I did trash keyword Queen, but still stuff gets through.
