Not a good company to be in.

(9,224 posts)It appears to suggest that we follow suit and join the countries on the linked map. Many of those counties are hardly exemplary in following the rule of law. Notwithstanding his references to other countries, Trump has nothing to do with the OP or my post.

(2,824 posts)"Because some countries illegitimately prosecute former leaders, all prosecutions of former leaders are illegitimate."
Do you believe that the prosecutions of Sarkozy and Berlusconi were/are witch hunts?
Do you believe Trump is being investigated purely as a matter of retributive politics?
If it's a legit prosecution, that's what it is. Makes no difference what has happened in other countries.

(9,224 posts)I never stated or implied that "all prosecutions of former leaders are illegitimate". What I said was "At least half of the countries on that map have prosecuted or jailed their leaders with no regard to due process of law". An accurate statement. The cause and effect relationship which is at the core of your attempt to establish a fallacy is nowhere to be found, There is no "all prosecutions of former leaders are illegitimate" part, spelled out or implied, anywhere in my post.
The OP didn't make a distinction between countries who prosecuted their former leaders legitimately and those who did so with disregard to due process of law. I found the latter problematic and I addressed it. See if you can find a logical fallacy in this: citing countries that have no regard to due process of law as an example to be emulated is not a good idea.
