Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) will announce an updated bill on national abortion restrictions Tuesday.
Driving the news: That's according to an email from Graham's office on Monday night saying he will hold a press conference on the introduction of the Protecting Pain-Capable Unborn Children from Late-Term Abortions Act with anti-abortion leaders.
Graham has previously introduced bills that sought to ban abortions nationally from 20 weeks. But the new measure is expected to call for a ban from 15 weeks, per the Washington Post. Representatives for Graham did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment on the matter.
The big picture: Graham's plan comes less than two months out from the midterm elections, with abortion expected to be an important issue for voters following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v Wade.

(54,330 posts)If there is one thing that is probably NOT in his closet, it's that. Toady that he is, I'm sure he was only too willing to grab the limelight before figuring out that he was chosen as a figurehead patsy, brought forward for the sole reason that no one else was completely immune to fingerpointing and accusations of hypocrisy.

(6,162 posts)You'd think the last thing even Graham would want would be to stir the abortion pot just before the election.
15 weeks is not going to get him any votes from women. The anti-abortion crowd doesn't want abortion at any point, and the pro-abortion people will see that as too early in the pregnancy to end a woman's right to choose.
Typical Lindsey Graham.

(1,165 posts)It reminds me of a classic Tom Tomorrow cartoon from back in the Bush era. I can't find it online, but the gist was that Bush and Cheney were actually quite liberal, and they were just faking being conservative so that they could destroy the Republican party from the inside.
If anyone could find that cartoon, I'd appreciate it.

(19,023 posts)This is them trying to seem moderate, 15 weeks. But make no mistake, if they ever get power again they will pass a national abortion ban with no exceptions.
The GOP are extremists.
